pests

This is my first grow outdoors and I know pests will be a problem. I am thinking about getting garlic spray for bugs and cayenne pepper spray for animals. Anyone used them? What other organic pest controll products have you guys had success with and how did you use them?

I would suggest actually that your holes should have been prepared already but if some of you havent I'd do it asap cuz it's getting warm. Farmers are starting to plow. Watch the farmers, they know they best time to start planting.
Also keep your eye in the sky...I cant be positive but yesterday I was outside and one of those unmanned drones(predator?) flew over...I dont what for but Im pretty sure thats what it was. Maybe thats the new way there detecting plots. Thats why I carry a semi-auto 30-06 with armor peircing rounds, if that MF'er comes too close it's coming down.
HAHAAAAAAAAA
lol thats some funny shit.
ive never seen one of those.

What I usually do is get a bar of Irish Spring soap and cut slivers off and scatter that in a circle around your patch. I also will cut down some bushes or little crabapple trees and stack them around my plants, to form a barrier around them. That seems to keep the deer away. As far as bugs, I heard but never done, is mix a teaspoon each: olive oil, dawn dish soap and cayene pepper then put those in a sprayer bottle then fill it with water then spary your plants with that mixture. I;ve heard of alot of people doing that.

That was a joke. Could you imagine how long you'd be in jail for that!

I reckon I'd stear clear of someone carrying a 2L bottle of piss around.
I piss at growsite, fo sure. I also take my dogs while doing as Kosh suggests in an awesome post above while prepping soil, they piss and leave scent, I collect hair from when I brush them and leave that there as well, and cat bells tied onto grasses, or low branches of nearby plants keep heaps of bigger pests away.
I'm a big believer in organics, and natural pest control, killing pests who are just doing what they do is pretty weak in my book. Hunting for food, I can handle that, but killing vermin out in their home,.

Thanks for the ideas. I have just one more question. If I dig my holes 3 feet deep and the width of a basketball how much soil will it take to fill the holes? Im trying to figure out how much money I will have to spend. I will be using 75% topsoil 25% perlite. So for you experienced growers, around how many holes can a big bag of topsoil fill?

Each one of those holes will require 1/2 - 1 x full bag to fill. This is why soil prep is a better option, if this is for a guerilla grow you will bust your back carrying soil in. There are lightweight options, expandable mediums, check Doc Flox's thread for more details.

Alright thanks. So if I planted 2 plants in one hole to dispose of a male later what if I have 2 females in one hole? What is the best way to seperate them?

You might not want to separate them, firstly, dont plant them right next to each other, plant at opposite sides of the hole. Then if two fems you either cull one that you dont like the look of, or you prune the sides closest to each other, or you train them to grow away from each other (best option). You can dig one up but roots will be tangled always leave the better plant, cut all round the plant with your spade, put spade in between the two plants, a bit closer to the one being removed, push it in, lever the plant out while supporting the base of the stem. Replant into loose soil.

a couple of my girls in the forest, have shown tiny preflowers

i also take a piss around the plants and so does the dog

my trenches were there already, so i just filled em up. Took at least 70L each. They are not very deep (20-40cm) but kinda long. So i put the plants in a row.

in a way i miss my ol terrace when i had everyday contact with my girls and i made sure they got maximum sunlight and pampering every day. Hey, cant have it all.
