^ You`re most welcome, thanks for posting.
Interesting about the bubble. With rockwool I`d say I get at least a 95% success rate. I do occasionally get a cutting that just dies, maybe that`s why.

^ Do it man, it doesn`t take much resources and doesn`t set the parent plant back. Nothing to lose!

Farmer; you the man.
I have been cloning for a while and, for me, there is only one method I would encourage others to use.Take the cutting (Farmer has the best advise on how that I have seen), soak in regular tap water for 2 hours, while underwater, scrape stalk skin, immediately dip in powder rooting hormone or use nothing at all, and place them in a pre-watered 80% coco 20% perlite mix and place in humidity cab (I use a small clear plastic shoe box) and spray everything with RO & Rhizotonic. I believe that not using any hormones works best. But I am old and set in my ways and for as insurance I use the hormone. I have to ween myself off of it. Maintaining the proper temps and humidity in the box is imperative. This method, as every other one I have used for cloning is laborious, but getting good results takes a lot of effort.

All sounds good, bet you get close to 100% success. I take a few shortcuts
.Good to hear about cloning into coco.

According to breeders I have spoken with; most say that not using any hormones is the best method. My success rate since using the coco is almost 100% . Great post folks. I hope that all smokers will someday grow their own and end the madness that so many countries fund; they call it the War on Drugs. Crime will go down and knowledge will go up. My 2p.

Here way are, pic taken today. The one in the top right (in soil) may well croak methinks.
Temps have been very cold here which may slow things down.

Farmer; they look good. Get a heating mat and humidity dome. I use a clear plastic shoe box and place on top of heating pad. Use Rhizotonic to aid the rooting; I do not work for Canna but their stuff has been working well. Maintaining the proper environment, humidity & temps (85 - 90 degrees F works for me, check the soils/medium temps too) & medium is imperative. My 2p. I also am a believer in the power of positive thinking; they are there so they will grow (alright that might be BS but it also has worked for me). Get some coco & perlite; I hate rockwool and soils is too unstable. Mine have looked worse and bounced back.

Also trim the tips of all the leaves. This encourages the clones to focus on the roots and the plant will not dry out as quick. My 2p.

@ Seaflo- They are in the propagating box normally
, I just brought them out for the photo . A heating mat would help now, although for 9/10ths of the year I can maintain good temps; just now we`re having a cold spell, even with the exhaust fan shut down it`s colder than ideal. The Rhizo and coco sound like good ideas but for the sake of this exercise I`m keeping things simple. @ Dan- these might get a bit ratty yet .

Looks great; the only thing I would suggest is the trimming of the leaf tips. Normally I do this when they are soaking in tap water but I have done it later in their development with good results. Anything that can trigger the plants' production of roots, will help. My 2P. Good luck.

I`ll try cutting the leaf tips with half of the next batch of clones I run and see what happens then.

they look great man! (especially the ones in rockwool)
btw, i have kept clones for over two weeks in plain water + very light nute solution and even in cold temps (15C or even less) with minimal light and they managed just fine. great thread FG ![]() so JH gives heart runs huh... (pitty...cause i always wanted to grow some, but i dont like racy heart strains) |

cutting the leaf tips aids in reducing transpiration. Less of the leaf to lose water to the surrounding air from what I remember.
Using a dome does indeed make that not neccesary. I use a glass of non PH corrected water for all my cloning. Cool water and bright lights, everything you are not supposed to do I guess. I have taken them 5 weeks into flower and as little as a month from seed. But we do have so close to 100% success it's not worth splitting heirs so why fix something that ain't broke? But I certainly do intend to make an aeroponic clonery and also buy one of those fancy-dan propogation chambers o doom as well. Can't know till you have tried right?

Dan, I have never had the success rate with an aero cloner (I have built them and bought pre-fabs) that I have had with just a dome. heating mat, coco and rhizotonic. Just my 2P. Someone gave me a few natural tea formulas for nutes and additives; I will try to make them and report back.

Ha ha the JH was special. It`s the most "up" high at the same time as being mega heavy. Extreme indica and extreme sativa all at once. If I ever get any more I`ll finish a bit later maybe, sometimes you want scary weed though...

Yeah, I agree as well, slunt. The only thing I didn't do was peel the stem. I don't know if I would have a soft enough touch as to not bruise or crush the tissue. I always just tried to make my cuts at an angle.
I think the bottom line is that there are many ways to grow well. I doubt that none of us grow "perfectly", we just do what fits with our environments and personalities. |
