Fluoro question

I know very little about fluros, the hardware store type. I've always bought systems and didn't pay much attention to bulb description. Is a "cool white" good for seedlings? I'm using a 105w in a very small box that is well ventilated but still gets very warm. I was looking at a 65w at menards that I was thinking of trying but thought I'd check here first. Any help would be appreciated.

Cool white is fine for seedlings I think- more reddish light is better for flowering.

Remember that the manufacturer often lists the equivalency wattage in bold rather than the actual wattage which is in the small print somewhere.

Well I picked up a floro light set up for my clones and its only 34 watts grow tubes and I have had very good responce of growth. Not really sure about the soft white tubes but keep us informed. My plants can actual touch the bulbs with no burn and I can actually hold my hands on the bulbs with no discomfort.Something to think about perhaps.I picked up these floro's at Home Depot for about $6.00 a tube in the grow light section.Good luck to ya and hope your grow yelds is more than you hoped for.

wide spectrum and aquarium lamps are ok for veg.

problem with floros is ...

intensity, and cost to get enough of it. (for the number of ballasts and fixtures and bulbs).

1 - 250 watt hps is all a body needs for a begining to end grow of at least 5 health full sized plants (however I always pinch and dwarf)

It's not just watts remember...It's light temperature (in degrees kelvin 5500-6500 = day) and intensity (lumens or candela per sg. in/ft. = area to be lit.

also I believe pot prefers a stronger light at a greater distance....(straigh t or direct light rays (more coherent).

^ u grow 5 plants under 250?can't be very big... I'd do one big one
Anyway Cool white I believe won't cause the plant to think it's the harvest light... Though blue is better IMO
