New grow

So my first grew turned out to be a male but I'm happy I learned what I did from this so now it's time to start my second grow. I'm growing Sagarmatha's Double Diesel Ryder and Joint Doctor's Easy Ryder both from feminized seed so I'm only running 1 of each right now since I can't have too much smell, and I also have a 400w HPS that I'm going to use probably after a week of just CFL so they get established before I put them under that light. Other then the rest of the Double Diesel and Easy Ryder seeds, I also have a fem Pakistan Ryder, and some Dinafem freebies that will be started once these start flowering. I just soaked them and popped them in the ground last night so once I have something to show I'll get some pics

So now that its about a week since the first popped up and 4 days since the other two I got some pics.

New setup, using a 27w CFL right now, switching to the HPS in one of the next few days.

One week old, does it need a transplant already? Those are roots reaching the bottom of the 16oz cup already.

Same plant (Double Diesel Ryder).

Easy Ryder (there is another Double Diesel that's the same size that popped on the same day so this is a pic for both). These are just 4 days old, but some roots are visible in the cup.

Your setup will work but you won't get full utilization from your lite. You should have reflective walls surrounding the plants. Even temporary walls you could slide around the plants would help. A growroom should be enclosed as much as possible.

I wouldn't transplant until the cup is full of roots.

I'd say you can use floros for longer than a week of vegging. Your call though.

Yeah. Plus you can always increase the wattage of the CFL's.

Would hanging some mylar around the frame of the shelf make a big difference?

Even enclosing it with plywood and painting it flat white would help. You want reflection from your light all around the plant. Enclose the shelving and put a false wall in front and you're all set. Just slide the false wall back and forth as a sliding door to get at your plants. Ventilation shouldn't be a problem and if the grow space is in an area that can be in total darkness you won't have any problems during flower.

Sounds good stoneric, once I have a day off I'm setting that up.

So since these flower regardless of the lighting schedule, me running the lights for 4 hours and then having an hour off to control the heat from the 400w HPS shouldn't stress or hermie them right? Running it this way keeps the temperature alot lower, running 24hr every day like I was kept it close to 95f at times.

New post-transplant pics tomorrow

Ideally you'd want an enclosed space (painted matt white or lined with mylar to utilise all the light like Stoneric said) with a fan and carbon filter to extract hot air and remove smells. If the grow space is not enclosed then smells will get out even if you do have a filter.

If you enclosed that ^ space you would need an air cooled reflector to keep heat down; I would recommend extending the frame or something to make the space a bit bigger if you are using a 400w HID.

The ryders look healthy enough. The soil looks a bit sodden. The cups do have drainage holes? Clear pots are not ideal, the roots should be hidden from light sources.

The roots you can see- I'd say you could pot that one up soon, maybe in a week- as long as they've got enough roots to hold the soil together.
