My Plants, and first grow (w/ pics)
Hey everyone my name is... well, you can just call me TL.
This is my first time growing, so I thought come here for help. I've had these plants growing for a while (all 12 of them), and so far I've had few problems. I just have many questions about growing and I'm looking for advice so I don't mess this up. I managed to take 3 pictures of my best plants before the camera died (now I'm looking for the charger). Here they are. This one came out pretty blurry, but its plant #1 ![]() Plant #2 ![]() Plant #3 ![]() So far here is my list of questions; 1. When should I transplant them? They are in normal blue/red plastic cups, the ones normally at parties. They have been growing for what seems like forever (I honestly can't remember the exact date, I was very novice back then). 2. When should I flower them? I know how to, but I'm not sure when I should. Some of the plants have their pre-flowers, but only a few of the biggest. 3. One of the plants I think doesn't have enough nutrients, its leaves are starting to turn yellow starting from the bottom. I have miracle grow mixture that I have given them twice so far. Once 2 weeks ago (8/29), again last week (9/5). Should I give them their next dose today like I was planning or get something new, or just stick to water? Or none of those? EDIT: I killed this plant, after realizing how big some plants can get I think 12 is enough. 4. When I actually make them a room once they start 12/12, will the light I have be enough? It is a simple florescent desk lamp, but for the past month or so it seems to be growing the plants fine. Thanks for reading, any advice and discussion is welcome. If I was to transplant them now, the only ones I would do would be # 1-3/4 cause they are the biggest, but I think I'll leave them until right before I start flowering. All of my higher numbered plants are still quite small and some don't even have their first 5-fan leaf.
Number 13 I'm pretty sure doesn't have enough nutrients and I'll prolly just kill it cause it is yellowing and is also one of the slowest growing. I'll eventually add a picture of it, right before I kill it (if I do). |

Hi TL.
watch it with the miracle grow, they don`t need much nutrients when they`re small- said yellowness more likely caused by overfeeding or water pH issues than nutrient deficiency. I would certainly pot those three up into bigger pots- as a rule of thumb in veg the plant should have as much room for it's roots as the rest of the plant takes up above the soil. The soil looks a bit dry in the pics- it should be moist but not sodden. what soil are you using? You're growing 13 plants under 1 desk flouro? More light will certainly help. I'm amazed that you've managed to avoid them stretching and growing spindly.

Okay I guess I'll transplant them once I get the chance... Should I put them in pots just a bit bigger, or should I move them to their final size pot?
The soil is completely organic (its from our compost in the back), its so organic that I've had to routinely pull out small plants that just pop out of it. I know its not dry because today I just made a bunch of holes in the soil for better water penetration. The reason why it looked dry is because they are in the basement and the dehumidifier was on, which sucked all the water from the top layer. Speaking of dryness and soil, what do I need to do to properly maintain wet/dry water cycles? I've only read about people doing it, never about how to do it. I would also like to start LST'ing them cause I have a limited space, so could I start that even though they would only have 2 sets of fan leaves? I read that you should wait for them to get 6-10 fan leaves, but does it actually matter much? Thanks for the advice, but I always got more questions.

Well today I transplanted 2 of the biggest plants, and on the first one I mess up and ripped off the very bottom of its roots. They had gone all the way down to the bottom of the cup it was in, but the soil had a gap so it separated when I turned it upside down. On the second plant I did it fine and didn't damage the roots. It looked like it had a good strong root system, so that's good.
So for the first plant with the damaged roots, should I give some miracle grow so it can do a bit better?.. |

When transplanting, I make sure the soil is dried out.......that prevents root damage when you flip the cup~

Well its been about a day since I transplanted them and they look like they're doing fine. I looked at them and they are both female, and 1 other plant had female organs developed.
So now I have 3 female plants and I'd love to show pictures of them, but I still can't find the camera charger. I'm probably going to set up a grow room and put them on 12/12 soon, but I'm going to wait til I can see how many females I got. |
