Growing Part 5 - The Vegetative Growth Stage

This is the period of growth between germination and the beginning of sexual maturity characterized by flowering. Growers generally use either 18 hours of light and 6 hours of darkness or 24 hours of light during this period. Most strains can be grown indefinitely (within reason) in vegetative growth as mother plants. However, Cannabis IS an annual and many plants will try and flower or at least degrade after a year or so of growth so be aware. What lighting cycle should I use for vegetative growth? Most growers use either 18 hours on / 6 hours off, 20 hours on / 4 hours off or 24 hours on and 0 hours off. Many growers prefer to give an off period to increase the service lights of their lamps and decrease the electricity bill, however there may be more scientific reasons why a night period is beneficial, starch may build up in the plants chloroplasts making them unable to effectively photosynthesis until the starch is able to be broken down during a night period. There is a lot to be said generally for a night period. The garden and it's components can cool off, plants can recover under less stressful conditions, a lot of root growth occurs at night as well as top growth, oh, and mother nature gives her plants one. You said:
"Most strains can be grown indefinitely (within reason) in vegetative growth as mother plants." Does that mean that clones taken from any plant in vegetative growth stage will be female?? Or do you still have to grow out and clone after the sex of the mother plant is determined to be female to clone girls? I have so many questions I'm dizzy. You guys are amazing. When I "grow" up, I wanna be just like youse~!

Cloning the Mother
First, you don't want to clone a plant until you know it is female.
To do this, force flowering after the plant has developed 4 to 5 internodes. That is to say, 12 hours light, 12 hours dark usually within 2 weeks the plant will show male or female. The first clone can be had by topping the plant. Clones from a female plant will be female, however, sometimes they can turn hemorphrodite and produce seeds also. I have one plant that I harvested then regreened it, it produced some seeds( which i saved), I cloned a small bud and harvested it and am now regreening it again. WOW this is an amazing PLANT! ~g |

Makes sense. What do you mean by 're-greening'? Multiple harvests??
Bless you, appreciate the response.

IF anyone has copies of the original overgrow pages (not sure if theres an archive somewhere), we could mirror/post 'em here to keep the good info alive.

re'greening
If you have a strong healthy plant, leave some leaves growing on the bottom, harvest the top and put the plant back under 24hr light. after a couple of weeks, it should start to show new growth. In warm weather, this is a good plant to move outdoors because of the size and sometimes it doesn't look like an M plant at all, single leafs and small size make it look like a lot of plants in your flower garden.
