grow light height..........

1st time indoorish, it will be in the garage in a cabinet (4.8feet long, 8 feet tall, 3 feet deep) that will comfortably hold 8 plants which i plan to let veg to about 2.5 feet, then flower in there. i want to use 1 pot from clone to harvest, i was told by a hydro shop that these 3 gallon (12inches tall by 11 inches wide, circumference haha......) would be good.....couple questions....
a) during flowering will they grow much more?
b) will a single 400w MH be enough
c) any suggestions on pot size so maybe i can fit more than 8 in there
d) how tall above the plants do i keep that 400w? or if i go 600w how much also
e) is the height above included during clone time or just veg or flower? or all 3

thanks all cant wait to get constructed pics up

a Yes they could easily double in height during flowering.

b Yes, but sodium is usually considered better for flowering

c You can get square pots.

d Look at this graph- http://www.yahooka.com/forum/farmers...l#post51664405. Bear in mind this assumes you don't have problems with high temperatures. So for a 400w sodium light you should have the bulb no closer than 6 inches from the plant.

e Seedlings or unrooted clones can't cope with high light levels. The best way is to move the light closer in stages, ready to move it back if the plants get burned. Flouros are more forgiving for small plants.

If I were you I would pot up to larger pots as the plants grow, with the last pot-up before flowering. If you use big pots from the start the plant's roots will not occupy the whole pot. This tends to leave water stagnant in the soil and retard healthy root development.

I would probably go for 4 - 6 plants in that space unless you are going to grow from clones with a short veg time.
