The Plastic Cup Grow

Hi all yall good night, I will remain my name anonymous for privacy concerns. My Online name is PasstheHydro and that is what Ill do. Ok so now lets talk a lil bit about Hydro. I encourage you to do so, don't feel shy.

Me i am new to these growing and if I am not mistaken a bird ate half of my plant today.

I beleive it was a pigeon to be exact, it ate half of my sprouted seed. When the seed sprouted it realized what appears to be two white more seeds. Out of these two seeds one got lost already, this made me really sad. I need to pay attention to birds.

Oh well anyways I am just saying straight up my method is plastic cups hydro. Simple flood method, flood the seed with water and basic 20-20-20.
I used other nutrients but 20-20-20 seem to work fine.

This was with some bagseed and I plan on purchasing some finer seed soon. If anyone would like to donate a seed or something like dat snd pm.

Please discuss about previous experiences with cheap hydro or anything hydro.

The idea of the thread is simplicity. Also flowering bear in mind I have never produced bud.

The roots need air- they will rot eventually if just sitting in water.

A wick system is probably the simplest hydro.

You can make a bubbler set up but you need an air pump and I don't think it will work in cups.

Suspended in Air

Yeah I will get those grows suspended in air. I have heard something like that.

What I was thinking was using like soil and the hallogen lamp with the nutrients. That basically. Also germaniting nicely.

It says you should not fertilize when baby but idk.

Anybody explain on how to do a simple wick.

I read on a website a simple 65 dollar setup for 1 plant.

1 AK-48
1 100 w min. lamp
1 electrical plug and all that have it.
1 soil
1 sand

it basically says that with that it can be grown after proper germination.

How important is soil and how different is aquphonics. I think i am doing aqua

Soil is probably best first go.

Hydro tends to cost more for the initial set up and if things go wrong they tend to go wrong a lot quicker.

A wick system would be cheap to set up but a little trickier than soil maybe.

Don't use halogen lights- the spectrum of light they give off is of little or no use to plants. Likewise for incandescents.
I'd recommend fluorescent or HID lighting. Fluorescent is the cheapest and easiest to set up.

Just to clarify- hydroponics means growing plants (without soil) in water. Aeroponics is a particular hydroponic technique. Aquaponics just means hydroponics I guess- sometimes people say aqua culture.

Soil is good because-
It acts as a buffer between the plants and water so helps if there is any pH fluctuation.
Nutrients can be stored in it.
It gives the plant's roots something to hold onto.
It holds water.
A soil grow is cheap and easy to set up.

Also a lot of people claim to prefer the taste of soil grown weed to hydro.

I wouldn't add sand to your soil mix- it will just make it heavier. Perlite or vermiculite are cheap aggregates you can add which will aid drainage.

Hydroponics is good because-
It can give bigger yields and slightly faster maturation times.
You don't have to mess about with soil.

Fluroscent but comparing mediums

Thanks Gilles your'e input is apreciated.

The reason I want to grow Hydro is because of the quickness but then I might end up missing a grow. Also potency plays a huge role.

While simple germination + soil + perlite or vermiculite, whichever is cheaper.

Perlite vs Vermiculite??
Rockwell?

The light and I am good to go,
Fluroscent for economical reasons.

Around how many watts? What distance?

I imagine all these things change with time.

how important is having a fan for 1 plant?

For germination of fine seed what method do you use?

For bagseed I used water with nitrogen.

Ok the grow was not as simple as I thought.

I am having to transplant into soil,

Using a soil mix of backyard soil, sand, and palm tree fiber (similar to coco).

And the bagseed, No artificial lights and indoor.

If this go through I might try the Ak-48 with better soil but I need to practices some. Do not want to waste an Ak seed
