Cutting fan leaves

I think I am in the point of flowering and they are continuing to grow bushy instead of tall. The light is about 18 to 20 inches above the tops. The strain is purple urkel and blue cheese. When you look at the pics notice the size of the fan leaves. Can I cut most of the fan leaves covering potential bud areas? I wanna make the flower switch sunday, possibly. I heard many times cut before flowering because of it causing it to stunt the growth, is it true? If I cut today can I still flower tomorrow?

I wouldn't cut them at all. Tie them off if necessary.
