problems with clones
hi guys, here again..
my clones are staying on the rockwool since a week, and some of them are ok some aren't the main problems are: 1) two of them are really bigger than the others and I think they will make roots coming out from the rockwool let say a week before that the others, which isn't good 'cause I will grow them on a screen of green and my goal with clones was to keep them all in the same size 2) two of them have been on lack of water so they took the risk to die, but now they are coming back on good health 3) other two have made yellow and almost burned leaves, can it be cause I am useing a 400HPS 18-6, I put it really higher than the plants I know you an't do nothing for the mistake which I mado, only say me what it might e wrong, the only my question is: if the two bigger will make roots, I want to put all the clone on the soil at the same time, what do I have to do whith them in the while I am waiting the others rooting? |

Just let them hang around in the rockwool until the others root.
400w sodium is major overkill for unrooted clones. Have you thought about those compact fluorescent bulbs? About 25-40w should do nicely for a handful of clones, you can keep the bulbs nice and close and save energy.

You can use fluorescent T5 tubes or similar.
Don't think neon will work.

Flouros are especially good for seedlings, cuttings and the initial veg phase as the lower heat (compared to HIDs) means there is much less chance of frying the little plants.
Flouros will work fine all through the veg stage though you might want to switch to HID once the plants have well established roots and can take the heat and higher lumens. Say 50 - 100w of flouros would do to veg 1 plant right through to the start of flowering. You can use household cfls (bayonet or screw cap), T5's or horticulture-specific cfls with an eddison fitting (like on HIDs). Have a look on some hydro shop or electrical supplier's websites You can use flouros for flowering but the HIDs will give you more bud. Flouros are available in different colours- you want a cool blueish colour for veg whereas a more yellow/red is better for flowering.

the fact is that nw I have a 400HPS, and if it is not good for seedlings and veg I can buy another one. The seedlings are under the 400HPS since 8 days, and the only thing happened is that some leaves burned. (just one in a plant and two in another). I put my 400HPS almost 4' higher than the seedlings. if there is something I can change on lighting I will do it, in order to keep the best result from the plants, but let me say, I want to buy only another light. if you can give me an idea about which is the best way to get result with my plants, using my 400HPS and another hipothetic new light which I can buy....it will be great thanks zed |

Maybe you should put the rooted ones in soil, coco, or whatever it is you use. And when I say rooted, I mean tug on them a bit, and if they don't move, they're rooted. You don't need to see root hairs shooting you out of the cubes for them to qualify.
Remember to start them on a dilute solution at first, and work them up little by little to full strength nutes. And yeah, floros are best for clones, I don't know why, but they just are.

I am sure that all my seedlings are rooted, because I saw them grew on the last days, and differently of the first days they are fixed on the rockwool, if I would tug them they won't never move from the rockwool cube, 100% sure. I am going to use 60% of Plagrom all mix ground and 40% of coconut, I think I will wait few days and then I will place them on the pots. Talking about nutes, I will use Bio Bizz for micro-elements, veg phase and blooming, they say to use 0.4 cl for liter but lot of people already told me to use half of it at the beginning. thanks for the help, and if you have any new suggestions it will be great |
