autoflower?!?
so my harvest is almost complete, im in the process of constructing a veg room in addition to my grow room, so i can have a constant veg/flower cycle.... ive been looking at seeds and have about 7 going from some i found in some of the club weed. if i get seeds that "autoflower" that means i dont have to worry about the 12/12 switch right? so then can i run an 18/6 the whole time or... possibly a 24? im using a 1000 hps for flowering and i am going to T5 the other room. the veg room will be vegging for the length of the flower time in the flower room, so using a 4foot 4 bulb t5 54w(5000 lumen, 20,000 total) how do you think that veg will do with that light and about 8 to 9 weeks of veg? huge, small?? just trying to keep a constant flow of green (and i aint talkin cash)
ps, cant wait to try my urks and blue cheese, theyre drying now...... |

8 or 9 weeks of veg time in a veg chamber equiped with t5 flouros is WAY too long! Using certain indica dominant strains(try Sugar Babe from Paradise seeds) will be a solid ten inches tall or more in a mere 20 days!(given you know what you are doing and ALL aspects of your veg chamber are optimum for vegitative growth, not just light) And to answer your question, yes an autoflowering variety such as Lowrider will flower under 24 hours of light, as they trigger to flower at a certain size due to containing some genetics of the species Ruderalis in the strain. Lowryder will start flowering at about 8 inches, or when 2 to 3 internodes have been produced. Hope i helped, GOOD GROW!

I havn't messed around with ruderalis myself, but an experienced grower of autoflowering strains who posts here said the yields arn't as good as one might hope.
IMO better to go with an indica/sativa type strain, find a good mum, clone her and flower the clones. If you already have a flowering and a veg room I can't see any benefit to using autoflowering genetics. Nothing is going to flower quicker than about 40 days anyway so you have plenty of time to veg the next crop. Ruderalis are useful if you need a very short growing period outdoors for stealth reasons or because you are at a very northerly or southerly location.

Quote:
216 watts of flouro should be ok for 4-6 plants maybe, depends on how big you want to grow each plant of course.

thanks, see i was just looking at seeds cuz i wanted stuff nobody had around here. i go to the club and get clones all day for $8. i have about 5 feet of height in my soon to be veg room and 8.5, 9 feet in flower. i dont mind how big the 6 get just as long as they dont bust outta my veg room. heres a pic of how i want to veg and why i want floro's with no heat.(its clean now and has the doors attached) the storage closet will be right on the side of my bloom room. as of now its in the low 60s( no fans just checking the heat threshold) with the outside temp being around high 70's. my garage stays cool, very nice insulation in this house. so considering this is workable heat wise all i have to worry is height. i vegged my last plants under a 1000w 18/6 cycle for about a month and a week or two,,, and now in flower they sit about 3 feet from top of the pot, so thats fine size with me
