Seedling problems
So I got a few seedlings that just seem to keep dying after a few days of normal growth. They appear to be healthy then all of a sudden the leaves will start to curl on the edges and dry out. Only one has managed to stay alive and start growing a second set of leaves, but it is start to have its leaves point upward and appear to shrink a small amount in size. The seedlings are getting enough water, but not to much. They are given water when ever the first inch or so of soil becomes dry. I'm thinking it could possibly be from the heat? There is a fan in the room, but I don't have AC, I just rely one a few fans around the home. A ventilation hole is being put into place to hopefully combat the heat if it is a problem. I haven't fed, or put nutrients into the soil yet. I plan on using urine at my source of nutrients during vegging. Should i use a real diluted solution of urine to give them a very small amount of nutrients (way more diluted than if I were to start a normal veg nutrient routine)? I've never had so much trouble with seedlings before!
btw, I'm running CFLs with ~4000 lumans per sq foot, which I guess is a bit much. Might take two out right now during their time as little babies. The room is around 2.5 sq feet with a lot of height (feet). I guess I could also just raise the light a little higher? thanks |

Leaves curling upwards usually means heat stress or light stress, seedlings are fragile.
Back the lights off and get some air movement, preferably get some fresh air in there. I'm not sure using pee for nutes is a good idea. Unless you've got a very good diet you're going to poison them with salt and stuff. Also it's going to smell bad.

Good point. What are some cheap ferts that will work well for vegging?
Also my soil is, ~40% promix, 30% vermiculite, 30% humus and manure compost. I added two holes to create a circulation using a fan. The temperature has greatly decreased. Sealing the door for light made it turn into a little hot box apparently. I also raised up the lights to about a foot with 2800 lumans per sq foot. The only guy that seems to want to survive is looking a bit better. Its second set of leaves are coming out decently and are looking pretty good. The first sets tips are a little fucked up from the problems earlier today, but the majority of the leaf looks a lot greener and healthier. Thanks for the advice. |

hey mango, a while back i started seeds in those jiffy peat pellet things. Theyr kinda like dirt pods. But turns out the fan i had for the room was drying the pellets out real fast! So i just kept watering them, but they died everytime til i fixed that fan.

I have some cat litter containers (I think 3 gal? Maybe 2) that I can repot it in. I got a total of 4 plants with this one being the biggest. It has half a week on my next largest and a week or so on my other two. All 4 of them has been topped and the younger three has had LST done to them. Is it to late to tie down the big one? I was lazy and didn't do it when I should have.
I'm currently just feeding with bio-bizz grow. I forget to get the bloom when I bought the grow. Sadly my bank has next to no money (under 2 bucks) so I'm trying to figure out a good source of P for flowering to add to a low dose of the grow. I'm planning on switching to 12/12 in a week or so (no more than a week and a half). I topped the other three about 3 days ago so a week longer should give them enough time to not be stressed while going in to flowering right? I'll get some shitty pics (no camera just computer cam) of the whole set up later. |

What shape are the kitty litter pots? You don't want them too shallow.
Go ahead with lst but be careful not to break anything. A week should be enough veg time for plants to get over the stress of topping.

Bone meal, blood meal, batshit, kelp compost or some kelp product, worm castings, fish meal.
I'm sure there's a lot more things as well. Kelp is free if you live near it, worm castings are everywhere and don't need composting. Bat guano is awesome if you can get it.

Thanks for the advice. I'll look around some stores and see if I can find a cheap organic product. Also I should probably grab some molasses as well I wager.

these are pics from yesterday right before I LSTed the bigger plant on the left. I've also added a 5th CFL bulb.
Looks like two sativas and two indicas. All bag seed. I know the indica closest is from some good genetics though.

huh? There are 4 plants. The one in front and to the side appear to be indicas or at least have some sort of indica genes to it (I guess a hybrid is a possibility). The two in back in the tins appear to have sativa characteristics.
