im gettin ready to hit the switch and ive been noticing some little gnat type bugs, they crawl and fly and i only see them when i move the pots. i have sticky tape up but they crawl more than they fly. theres no visible damage caused by them. ive used neem oil about 3 times in their life(5 weeks). will those bugs hurt them or are they harmless.... should i continue to use neem oil or go harder? i bomed the room before my grow and ive never had these so i dont know how they originated. ive been looking around and have not seen any examples of what i have so hopefully its just gnats. thanks

They feed on the roots.
Keep everything clean and bare so they have less places to hide. Remove dead yellow leaves. Neem oil, soap spray and sticky yellow strips will help keep their numbers down. Fans will discourage them. If you have any spiders let them go about their business- their aims are compatible with yours. Sick plants are an easy target. I've found using nutes with lots of carbs (like molasses) tends to encourage them.

thanks , I hit em up with neem/soap spray, hit the sides of the pot ( where the bugs would hang) and a little on top of the soil. i watered them a little bit later. the numbers have gone way down but i still see a couple here and there. how much neem is to much, ive read you can do a weekly regimen or should i do it less/more?

ugh, root aphids. i hate those fuckers. they suck sooooo much. i had a horrible infestation once, to the point that anytime i watered, id see literally millions of tiny, squiggling larvae float up to the surface. had to cull all the plants and dump my medium.
putting a layer of chunky perlite in the bottom of your containers before you put your medium in helps keep them from crawling up the drainage holes. also put a layer of perlite on top of the top-soil in your pots to help discourage them from crawling into your medium that way. ive also seen improvements by using gnatrol (which is bacillus thuringiensis or bti for short) lacto bacillus culture seems to help keep them at bay aswell. you can easily make that with items you find in the kitchen. prevention is the best treatment for those bastards.
