Starting to flower..

This is my first grow attempt.. doing it outdoors in pots using some random bagseed. With it only being the end of June, I wasn't expecting any flowering to happen for another month or so since my girls are only 2 1/2 months old and between 1ft and 1 1/2 ft tall but a couple are starting to flower. There hasn't been any changes in watering, nutrients or anything else for that matter. From what I've read about the cannabis plant though, it won't start flowering until the amount of light has been cut back either by covering the plants or the days begin shortening more. Has this happened to anyone else besides me?

i'm hoping i won't have to pull many males.. out of 8 from bagseed i'd be happy with 4-5 females. i'm thinking the males would've distinguished themselves by now if there are any assuming they're supposed to show before any females do (could be diff stains.. although i'm almost 100% positive they are all predominately indica)

the couple that have begun flowering tho have a lot of white hairs emerging from the top and the banches so i'm positive it's a female. hopefully it won't herm on me. does anyone know if an excess of cloudy days could have sent my girls in flowering? i noticed preflowers on a some about a week or two ago (hoping i'm right about the 6 of 8 being ladies ) but figured the ones showing sex would keep vegging for awhile still... but i can see the foliage around the main stem is getting heavier each day

I've seem some autoflowering types on seed sites. Has anyone tried any of these before? Jw'ing since we have an early frost in the fall (could be october? not sure) in my area and wouldn't mind trying them sometime. my only concern is since they're crossed with a ruderalis strain they prolly won't be a big yielder..

No, shouldn't make any difference.

Getting things "down" never happens. And I don't mean that in a way that one shouldn't try.

I know it will forever be a learning process.. quite a fun one at that. I can't already tell I'm hooked. I've found most of my time has been spent between reading about cannabis horticulture and gazing at my plants

I do have another question tho.. since I've decided to let my girls flower outdoors, au natural.. will there be a significant difference in flowering time between letting nature take its course and covering them to ensure they have a consistant 12-14 period of absolute darkness.

My main worry is that since I live in the northern midwest part of the us is frost or cold temperatures stunting/slowing growth... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hearing it from someone experienced always is conforting..

Yeah you have to beat the frost...

If you started covering them to give 12 hrs of darkness now, they would be ready in the same time as if you grew them indoors- typically about 60 days- could be a bit less, could be a lot more.
If you let them take their course they will get a lot bigger and finish whenever they finish (depending on strain and what latitude you are on).

There are strains that finish early enough to be grown in Canada.

So anyway- I'd expect months of difference in harvest time if you covered them now. But you've got to cover and uncover them every time... on time.
Also think about condensation and budrot if you're going to cover them.

I'm prolly going to have to start covering a couple of them that have moved into flowering. The one's that haven't entered pre flowering I want to veg longer so that they get as big as possible.

The only thing I've been able to think of that I could use to cover them with is large plastic trash cans. I was worried about them damaging my plants if they blew when it gets windy at night but drilling some holes in them so that i could stake them down should work.

Is there any good product out there I could use to help prevent budrot?. It's been rainy and humid here lately and I'd hate to see any budz being lost to it..

Shake the water off the plants after it rains.

Botritis (budrot) will usually manifest towards the end when the buds have grown fat.

Thanks.. I'll have to make sure I do that. I've already been goin out to 'em earlier in the morning to shake any moisture out before it gets too hot mid day..

Does anyone have an tips on foliar feeding? They all appear to be doing well on their own but would like to do something to increase growth and yield if possible.. Would I have to cut the amount of nutrient solution going into the soil if I star foliar feeding?

Using the cardboard boxes sounds like it will make things a lot easier than using garbage cans, and a lot cheaper. The short growing season has been a big worry of mine since I'm hoping to get as much smoke as I can since I'm done with buying bags from people.. too costly and just a hastle at times.

I'm really interested in trying to do some cloning but since I don't have too many plants growing.

From what I've been reading it sounds like there's different types of rooting product (gels, liquids, powders.. i think). Is there a certain brand or type that has been successful for anyone whose done it before?

Oh.. and I regard to growing time for clones compared to from seed.. How much difference in time between growth cycles is there usually with a predominately indica strain?

Love the picture man.. especially the smiling sun A greenhouse or grow room would have def put me a lot further ahead of schedule. I started my grow indoors to get a head start but with only being able to use sunlight through a window, my plants didn't develop as much as I would have liked before I put them out. I'd like to get a closet set up to start 'em with next time around. A greenhouse to go with it would be ideal but with having to keep everything as much on the downlow as absolutely possible it may be something I would have to do in the future once I can find a way to conceal things.

Any cheap ways to construct a homemade greenhouse tho? I may try to build a small one for clones.. if I can find a safe place for it..

2 by 2 boards, screws, plastic drop cloth, stapler and duct tape. Build the frame, then put a little piece of duct tape before you staple the plastic to the frame (so it won't tear as easily).

One time I took a couple of windows I found and nailed them together in an A-frame formation.

That's some stuff I've done. Remember the cheapest way to build anything is to salvage as much as you can from around the house.
