tap root up or down in rockwool?

once the seedling has cracked should i put the tiny root down into the rockwool or should it be set facing up? i have read that each way is the way to do it in different literautures.

if you germinate it before sprout, put the sprout in first, the seed should break off just above soil

Next time you could try germinating straight into the growing medium- the sprout will know where to grow by itself.

You might get a slightly lower germination rate (maybe) but then you're pretty much assured 100% survival barring disaster.

ive had some bad luck with my last couple attempts. lost my good seeds. germinated by soaking 24 hours in a shot glas. seeds cracked and the lil tail grew bout 1/4 of and inch. i placed them DOWN in the soil. one took about a day to sprout above soil. grew about 2 inches and just seemed to completley shut down and wilt away. the second seed took about a week to sprout above soil and looked a little healthier but ultimatley did the same thing. maybe because it wasnt humid enough or they were in to direct of sunlight. i dono. this time around i think ill either try tap root up or directly into the rockwool. than make sure i have a lil propagation dome to keep them warm and humid for a while before putting them into the net pots and medium.

Those domes are awesome for cuttings and seedlings.

arent you supposed to put the whole seed into the soil once it germinates?

the plants root knows which direction is down and will grow down regardless of the orientation, its called gravitropism.

if thats the case my failure was due to the conditions after sprouting...not the way i germinated.
