Hey guys! I will be moving in with my girlfriend pretty soon, and since she has a little growing experience, I wanted to do my first indoor grow. My biggest concern is to decide on which strain to do with. Depending on the seeds I go with will depend on my growing operation.
If I buy femanized seeds, I will do a 2 plant hydroponics setup. If I get mixed sex seeds, I will plant 4 in soil pots, and when I get a strong female I will clone it into 2 hydro setups and yield/kill the rest of the plants. I've already decided on a couple WaterFarm hydro kits. Since this is my first non guerilla grow, what is a good low maintenance strain that would be good to get my feet wet in hydroponics (no pun intended)? From what I have read in the cannibus bible is that I want to lean towards an indica or indica dominant hybrid. I see that Skunk variations are very strong and low maintenance but I will be living in an apartment and I'm a little concerned about smell. Aside from just supplying mine and my girlfriends stash, we have a few friends in the area that we will be sharing our yield with. It is a midwestern suburb in the middle of nowhere, so the weed that is there now isnt exactly the best in the world. I would like a strain that will BLOW THE LOCAL POT AWAY! I don't even plan on selling, I just want to be that asshole with the best dope in the city that doesn't sell, lol. I've looked at and liked: White Widow LowRyder G13 Can you guys help with some suggestions for my strain choice and first hydro setup? All help is most appreciated!

I forgot to mention that either way I end up planting, when I get my 2 strong female hydro plants, I want to take the sensimilia route with both of them.

Well theres no reason you can't grow seeds hydro, i'm doing it at the moment with four plants. I buy the majority of my hydro shit at walmart with the exception of ferts and some other misc stuff.
as far as a strain, weed as a whole is easier to grow than you might think. Getting its exact ideal conditions down is a little tougher. You can adjust those as you go tho. If space is an issue an indica dominant strain will stay short and bushy and generally flower sooner than a sativa dominant (which also grow way taller). Stay away from autoflowering strains, I believe lowryder falls into that category. White widow wouldn't be a bad plant, I understand it can be a little picky as to its growing conditions tho. check out hempdepot.ca if you want to order seeds. i live in the states and had seeds from them in under 3 weeks no problem. You can check out my hydro setup here, its really easier than you might think. don't be afraid to go for it. tig |

You need to plan to deal with the smell, a carbon filter is a good first step and will also help ventilate the plants.

Living in an apartment, where do you vent to? I have the luxury of owning a home so I can vent into my attic and I can still smell my plant's wonderful odor, especially in late flower. And when you harvest, the stench is even more pronounced. Not trying to discourage you, but the smell will get you busted.

Probably gonna vent what I have to through the exhaust vents for the dryer. I was hoping the ionic fan would filter enough of the smell out that it wouldn't be a problem.
I have never smelled a plant in flowering. Is it as pungent as someone smoking in the same room as me? Does it smell just like weed? I've heard some people say that their strain or method of growing has made a lot of great plants but the smell is almost nill. The guy said he had to hold his nose down to the leaves to be able to smell it. I just wanna be low key as possible. This is just for personal use, so I am willing to sacrafice a high yield for a strain that doesnt smell to bad but is still potent. I would hate having to do another outdoor guerilla grow because the product more often than not sucks and I just prefer the high on weed grown indoors.

Flowering weed is as pungent if not more so than a bong rip. Its a bit of a different smell than dried, cured weed, but smelly nonetheless. Maybe consider an ozone generator or activated charcoal filters. Other than that, a heavy scented spray may do the trick. When I had a closet grow in my college dorm I used a spray called Odor Assassin. Its supposed to even work on skunk odor, but I haven't had too many skunks around to test it on.

I've never come across a strain which can be grown indoors stealthily with no method of odour control.
You know if someone opens a bag of fresh weed in the room you can smell it straight away? It's like that but more so and it builds up. Northern Lights is not that smelly and gives a good smoke but IMO you are barking up the wrong tree trying to pick a non smelly strain. I'm not sure about the ionic breeze thing either- The Sharper Image - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia apparently the firm that makes them went bankrupt because they were sued by people who bought them. Carbon filters work pretty well. A half decent filter and fan can't cost much more than the 75 bucks you were thinking on paying. Edit- oh sorry you already have the ionic breeze. Just re read.

It might work well in conjunction with a carbon filter, or just for a small plant.

You said you were gonna share the yield with some neighbors? If they get a piece of the pie, make sure they pay to help you produce the stuff.

A) I want to encourage people I know there to get into growing. That way, we can trade buds during harvest and sample some other weed from time to time. B) I'm not going to be able to smoke all of my product, and I don't want bags upon bags piling up in my appt. I don't want to deal, for some reason I just have a bug in the back of my brain that tells me drug dealers are bad. I imagine my locals friends would be willing to help out with the overhead if I give them weed because they are all older more mature folks (30-45). If anything I can just sell it to them REALLY cheap, like $50 an oz just to cover nutrient costs and the extra power I will be using for the lights.
