lighting query

hya all its been a while since i last posted and have a question-i wanta know if i just go out and buy a sunmaster 400w dual grow bulb will i require a ballast or can i just screw it into my socket ive been using with a 300w cfl?thanks in advance

I moved this to The Nursery.

You need a ballast compatible with a 400w sodium bulb. The bulb requires different voltage/current than mains would supply, especially when striking (lighting up).

Your cfl actually has an internal ballast I suspect, but not as heavy duty as an HID ballast.
