light for gemination

HI guys,

I'm gonna to make germ 5 seeds of W.W. in the rockwool's block which I know is the best way to do it.

I am wondering which is the best light condition to grow the seedling, I own only a 400HPS and I know that it will burn the seedling at least untill they will be like 3 - 4 inch tall.

waitng for your reactons
thanks a lot
Z.

You can get some regular household CFLs. They come in different colour temperatures (shade of colour if you like), try to get something more towards blue than red.

If you have a few more $ to spend you could get T5 striplights or the larger purpose made horticultural CFLs.

But anyway, some sort of flouro would be ideal for seedlings and cuttings.

I would use a daylight CFL, maybe two of them. And you wanna do 18/6 for the light cycle, for now anyways. When they get a bit of root and leaf development, you can switch to 24hrs if you wish. Hard to keep up with nutrient uptake that way though.

If you don't want to buy a new light just keep yours up near the ceiling. Leave about 6' between the babies and the light.
Kinda overkill though and it would be cheaper to buy a 23 watt cfl and plastic lampholder.

Some seedlings might stretch because of the colour of sodium light methinks.

I keep my little flouro going 24 hours. I want to keep the soil warm and moist until she sprouts. I keep the lite going 24 hours until she's ready for the next room at which time I give her a dark period.
