please forgive the fact that i'm brand spankin' new here, haven't het drawn up my intro thread, and i'm not even sure if this is the most accurate forum for this question but.....oh well lol
it's a simple question i think.i was given something extra with my baggie earlier today. actually, it was quite a generous gift! i got what i estimate to be about $60 worth of newly harvested bud still on the stem, still somewhat fresh and supple. the grower had to harvest a touch earlier then he wanted on account of a hard freeze predicted for the next few nights; his crop is an outdoor one. anyway, i have several small stalks with several small buds on them, and they are just fine save for being a little wilted at this point. sadly......i'm not sure what i need to do with them so they don't molder or worse! what's the best way to dry and cure them properly? what else do i need to consider, or do? i'm going for simple here! thanks ![]() *MIschief~ |

Hang upside down in a well ventilated dark area. when almost dry throw in mason jar with lid, open lid daily for an hour or two, then recap, and repeat uncapping the next day for an hour or two then repeat daily till perfect.

Good advice thehallfamily1.
You could also trim off the bud, put it in a brown paper bag in a dark room and fluff it daily until its mostly dry... then move it into a jar (removing the lid daily as the above poster suggests) Nice gift Lady_Mischief! Enjoy

Lol if it was mine I'd probably carry out stage 1 and then get impatient...
Unless I had a prior stash of course then I'd follow some of the good advice in this thread.

despite growing outdoors twice ive never had a harvest, although ill have an indo one soon.
im going to do mason jars because it's unwritten rule that when you cure the slower you do it the better quality buds you get. it is the best method because you get equal moisture throughout the bud. drying the buds gives you a dry outside and a moist inside. they are not m&ms lol, jar em!

i'm in the process of....processing my entire greencrack plant. i've decided to go with the mason jars (and other air tight jars) after they've hung to dry. i did some of it with the paper bag thing in between hang drying and jars...meh, i didn't like the way it was drying...the bunch o' buds i put in the mason jar are doing incredibly well, and i like the whole look, smell, feel and taste from the jars a lot better. it got kinda weird in the paper bag, so i transferred into jars.
it takes some experimenting sometimes, and everyone usually figures out their own little particular method of drying and curing.

thanks for all the great advice everyone! i took one of the oven racks out of the oven ('cause it worked, why not?!) and tied all the stems with buds onto the rungs. now it's propped so they're hanging upsidedown in a dark area of the house with good ventilation. i'm actually going to put them in a jar later tonight and dry/cure them slower per AlteredStateGrl's suggestion. i'm quite a weed-snark (quality over quantity 100% of the time!), and since this is actually my medicine (yup! state of Wa. mmj patient for severe chronic pain disorders) i'm going to do it correctly, not quickly.
again, thanks everyone! i'll let you know how it turns out! |

Don't jar them until they're fairly dry (dry enough to smoke ok at least) or they'll go mouldy in the jar- it usually takes at least a week, often longer before they are ready for the jar.

this is good advice as well. mine hang (or lay on a suspended screen) in a walk in closet with a fan on the entire time... i also leave the door open to the closet a little bit during the day for more air flow, and i move the fan around so it's just got going one direction the whole time. they stay there a week...or a little longer...i have a good environment for them though...dark, constant air movement and the temp in my house is consistent. the smaller buds that don't hang and are on the screen, dry quicker than the huge buds that hang, so they typically go in the jar first.
