Awesome amounts of bomb weeeed...(storage)
Soooo, what's the best way to store it? Like, semi long term? I'm not talkin' years or anything, buuut, I've got quite a bit goin' here and I'm only through harvesting 2 of my 4 girls.
I have canning jars, which I'm using to cure, and to store in during usage, but I'm not sure if jars are the best idea for sorta long term...maybe it might cause mold or drying or...something if it's long term? Does vacuum packing it work? Recommendations? Thaaaank you! ♥

vacuum packing has always seemed to reduce quality somewhat imho, or at least alter the flavor. I'd just go with jars, which should be 'burped' at least once a month. They have special jars that seal in such away that they remove most of the oxygen from the jar, that'd be yer best bet I think.

Glass FTW. Over here TKmax tends to sell some cool jars for low $.
If you want to keep any longer than say 6-9 months freeze it as soon as it's well cured.

^through all drying and curing and storing smaller amounts...i've favored glass. if i use glass, burping once a month will prevent mold?

If it's well dried & cured it won't mould for years but it will start to go a bit "brick" if kept too long.
After a certain dryness has been achieved (like you've properly cured it) it's not going mould and you don't need to burp it anymore though I'd still be tempted to take the odd whiff personally. I think the THC degrades to lower grade cannabinoids like CBN if kept too long but don't quote me on that. If you freeze it- a little flavour is lost but you can keep it forever if it's well sealed. Edit and congrats on a bountiful harvest thus far .

Congrats ASG
![]() I use 1/2 gallon mason jars, and just leave the lid off for 30 minutes everyday for 3 or 4 weeks, shaking it around every once in awhile to break it up. Then open it maybe once a month. I've kept it for a year like this with no noticeable loss of taste or potency, or mold. Oh yeah, and I kept the jars in a dark closet. ![]() ![]()

Jars all the way. And after you empty the jars give em a scrape for a treat
![]() We've kept weed about 4 years tops. The potency and flavour were still good. Pretty damn dry tho. Found it whilst cleaning... 3 times.

Has anyone tried putting those silica "do not eat" packs you get out of the bags of jerky in the jars with the product over long term? they are supposed to remove the oxygen. also what about very large quantities over a fairly long time, more than what would be practical with small jars. i was thinking a sealed aquarium of some sort?

I have quite a few hiding places in this house. I still expect to find our Black Russian F2 seeds I misplaced years back

Long as I still got real stoned nothing else matters

If anyone follows these simple directions, they can keep any dried plant matter fresh for YEARS. You need to assemble:
Appropriate sized mason jars ( I prefer 1/2 pint size) $10.00 Food Saver Vacuum Sealer $40.00 oxygen absorbers $15.00 1) Make sure the herb is dry so mold will not grow. By dry I mean that the stems break when bent between your fingers. 2) Fill the mason jars, leaving one inch of headspace for the oxygen absorbers. 3) When the jars are filled, open the plastic bag of oxygen absorbers, quickly place one in each jar, and seal the jar. What are oxygen absorbers? Are they safe? Where can I buy them? How much do they cost? Just Google oxygen absorbers, and your questions will be answered. The jars must be sealed immediately after the oxygen absorbers have been added. You could stop now and your herb will be fine for years, but I prefer the belt and braces approach. 4) Pump out the air using the food saver with the mason jar attachment. GOOD LUCK

Theoretically speaking, if you can fill the jars with an inert, non toxic gas, say helium, you could minimize any loss of potency provided you guard against moisture, light, heat, etc. Also, indefinite storage time that way, with no microorganisms being able to break down the product. I think dispensaries should look into something like that.
