Angry Light mover noise aargh!!

So I'm setting up a light mover with 1 shade. It keeps making a stupid creaking noise- really loud, it's shaking the floorboards. It works fine apart from this bloody noise, it's an absolute no no for stealth though.

I don't know if the rubber wheels are misaligning themselves, it seems to be tracking fine as far as I can tell.

The rail is mounted perfectly horizontally as far as I can check with spirit level or laser level. Everything is set up as per instructions.

Here are the brochure and instruction pdf's.

Odd it's noisy. From what I can see the only difference between that brand and the intellidrive we used is the plastic drive wheel vs. rubber.
You attached it to a solid underpinning? not just anchors through gypsum board or something like that?
ours is silent. If you are right beside it you here nothing except a tiny click when it changes direction.

Have you figured out whether the sound is coming from the movement along the track or from the mechanics of the unit?
Thinking back, ours came with a used drive unit with a buggered drive wheel and a new drive unit, which squeaked for a time.
Not as loud as you describe, but more of a squeaking.

I missed this
Quote:
Place Jupiter II motor on to the track, making sure
that the slide switch is on the side of the track
which has the extruded slot
The rail is handed, or asymmetric if you like. The rubber wheels weren't sitting just right in the rail tracks and slipped from time to time with a loud creaking noise.

Works completely silently now .

So you can have two molecules which are effectively different but which are identical apart from asymmetry?

yeah, theyre called entaniomers, a special kind of geometic isomer. Thats what the L- or D- before drug names mean, like L-5 HTP is the left hand molecule of 5-htp. even though the molecule is almost identical, the pharmacological effects are way different, levo-methamphetamine is Vicks Vapor Inhaler, while dexto-methamphetamine is meth.

anyway, grats on the silence. how much did that thing run you?

A friend of mine was driving through the boondocks in Ireland looking for a little village, somewhere closeto his destination but a little lost.
He came to a crossroads. Two of the turnings were signposted to the village he was looking for. An old man was sitting by the side of the road smoking a pipe.

"Excuse me" my friend says, "what's the quickest way to xxxxx?"

"Are you driving or walking?" asks the old man.

My friend is sitting in his van, - puzzled- "Driving" he says.

"Ah that'll be the quickest way then" the old man gets up and walks off, laughing.

The noise has come back

Not as loud but persistent- I can see the mover isn't running straight.

I've deftly moved the cables around and reconstructed the light rigging multiple times to no avail.

It's a supreme fuck on because I really don't want to empty the room right now .

I've ordered a pair of jockey wheels and I'm going to make a dummy dolly on a push rod to keep it straight.

Dammit I am the supreme ruler of the room!

Fingers crossed I think I've got it sorted. A large desk fan used to recirculate the air in the cab was the culprit.
Because of the position, the airflow caught one side of the shade more than the other. This twisted the chains a little and misaligned the light mover.

All I had to do was move the fan slightly!
