A bit crowded? Just wait till flowering happens. They gonna start choking each other out. But I'm betting the roots are a solid mass by now, so it'll be hard to cull the crop.

Maybe a screen of pea netting to train and support them?

I was trying to be nice.

I would never disturb the roots at this point. If you do any major culling, just cut it to ground level.

A pea net is a very good idea.

When I had a situation similar to this, I tied string loosely on to the tops, and tied the other end to paint cans (or any other heavy object). That way I could adjust when necessary. Tweaked the system after that, so I would never have to do it again. Much hassle!
