FED UP WITH HER

Here’s my problem… twice I grew and both time my baby turned out to be a hermaphrodite. After weeks of nursing her and this is my reward. Sucks…

I’m a beginner and was cocky enough to start my growth in hydroponic. Well, maybe I should have started in soil instead of hydro.

I don’t know if I’m stressing her or maybe it’s just genetically. I heard if you get feminized seeds from breeding bank, that you’ll get a hermaphrodite. How true is this???

1) check for light leeks, any light during the dark period is a no no
2) wait for people like dan and giles to show up with mad expert advice

Maybe post this in GTGH and you'll get some collective advice. Can we tell us a bit more about your system? I wouldn't think all feminized seeds hermie or there wouldn't be a market for it.

Oh.. and Welcome!

Could be either genetics or as a result of stress.

Stress- Like Xil said, I'd check for light leaks- any stray photons during lights out could cause hermaphrodism in flower.
Check the temperature at the top of the plants with the lights on- Ideally it should peak at around 27 Celsius, it's pretty much ok for a max of 30C, any higher could cause hermaphrodism.
How cold does it get with the lights off? Too much difference between the min/max temp can be another cause of hermaphrodism, about 10C difference between day & night is ideal.
If night time temps are going below 10C this could cause problems, if they approach zero this will almost certainly cause problems.

Any other extremes of environment such as high/low humidity, over/underwatering, overfeeding with nutrients or variations in the lights on/off times might cause stress.

Genetics- if whoever made the seeds used pollen from a natural hermaphrodite then the offspring may well be hermaphrodite too.

Where are the seeds from? Do you know made them?

There are questions about the reliability of femmed seeds even if they are made honestly from good parent plants.
But you'd be unlucky to get two hermies with half decent seed unless it were caused by environmental stress.

Edit I've moved this over to GTGH.

I use fem seeds exclusively and have only had a couple of partial hermies over a 7 year period. I've bought seeds from mutiple banks and they've all been good quality with a near 100% germination. I do grow in a very controlled enviornment so I think giles and Xil are spot on with the stress issues.
