Drying before curing..

Hey everyone..

I have completed my second attempt at growing, and now at harvest stage am presented with quite a problem....

I have 4 mature plants to dry/cure and cannot do it indoors..

I know the requirements for drying (25 degrees, dark, dry) and cannot accommodate these outside (given temperature at the moment) so have decided to build a dryer.. Let me know what your thoughts on this are...

-I have gotten one standard bookshelf, 120cm x 50cm x 50cm. Will seal open area with plywood... With a string to properly hang plant material.
-To the top end I am going to attach a 12v computer fan to work as an exhaust, on the bottom a 400/800W heater, with an external digital thermo to measure the temperature.

Without going too much into it, what are your thoughts?

Hmm the heating seems a little much- 25C is a little high imo, I'd say about 10- 15C would be better. If you dry it out too quick quality will suffer.

I've seen similar drying cabs except with a bigger fan and no heater- that worked fine.

You know it's going to smell of course .

A carbon filter will help with that if you have one.

Generally speaking the quicker you dry it the more the quality suffers, you could dry weed in a day or less with a fan heater but you'll ruin it.

If you dry it in less than a week from harvest quality will probably suffer.

Preffered method is to hang in a cool dark place with some slight air movement and medium- ish air humidity. This may well take 2 weeks or even more before being dry enough to store or start to cure.

A dehumidifier if one's available may help with humidity if it's an issue but sounds good.
