Simple grow box

What would I need for a basic grow box in my room?
2-3 plants are all I'm really looking to do, personal use.
Preferably with an ability to have a rolling harvest.

2-3 plants, I'm guessing indica dominant for space? If you're just wanting to run 2-3 plants get feminized seeds, for sure. As far as space goes, I'd say 6' x 6' x 6' or similar. Then you'd need fans, lighting, nutrients, etc. Idk man, theres a lot of materials you'd need or could use. What all do you have already? Might make it easier to narrow down a 'list' of supplies.

Depending on size, I'd go with a veg chamber (maybe for clones later?) and a flower chamber on top.

This allows for a rolling harvest.

You'd need a way to circulate the air through the box. I might recommend a cooltube system which encloses the flowering bulb (HPS/MH), and removes the heat from the closet. You could also hook this up so the air intake goes like this:

Outside--flowofair-->veg chamber----->Flower Chamber---->Outside

The details can always be knocked out, but that's the basic principle. And you might as well learn now that pulling air in, is always better than pushing it out. Both in terms of the stress it puts on the fan, and in terms of smell control.

For lights, I think you can get away with a pretty low wattage for the flower chamber, maybe 200W? For the veg chamber, you wanna be looking at some flourescent lights.

Oh man, the nutes, well, let's just take that when you're a little closer to goal.

You'll also need pots, and something to catch the water.

There's loads of other stuff you might wanna get along the way, but in my mind it's much much better getting some dirt and seeds in the pots and just learn as you go, than trying to do everything perfect the first time around.

Yeah I've got everything for building materials(garage full of wood) and tons of pots and soil.

It was 4am and I was wiped out so I forgot to specify, I meant like for lighting, airflow and cooling specifically.
I was thinking CFLs, but that's probably not doable. Also, I've got a bunch of old busted PCs that I could harvest the fans from, but I don't know if those would work.

I'm broke as fuck, which is basically why I'm looking to do this in the first place, so I'd like to keep it as barebones as possible.

Household cfls are pretty cheap and readily available.
You want about 100 or more watts at least so you'll need a few light fixtures, some cable, a terminal block thingy and a segment timer.
You could use strip flouro's (T5's are good) instead.

Make a cabinet. Use computer fans to exhaust air. They can work fine for small scale set ups like this

It needs to be totally dark inside when the lights are out.

Soil, plants.

Sorted. Apart from odour...

If you want to run a perpetual harvest you need two chambers, one for flowering and one for moms, clones and vegging.

No, unfortunately when I say my garage, I mean my mother's garage. I just can have any of the wood from there that I want. I live in an apartment 10 miles away, plus she wouldn't be down with me growing there.
And I'll be going from seed, as I don't know of anyone that grows.

How much space is available?

You'll have to plan a way to find the lady plants.
You can-
Use feminised seed. Some feminised seed is of low quality though.
Use regular seed, discard males when they show.
Use plan b^ but keep the best plant(s) as mother(s). Even if you're very pushed for space you could use an old computer cabinet or something for a second chamber for a mom and a few clones. Making clones is pretty easy with a little practise.

What are the stealth constraints? Consider them carefully and all that.

Dear Farmer, could you point out to me a good / decent and honest seedbank? I could use a few feminized ones. Much obliged for your time.

I haven't used them (feminised) myself...

I don't know if you are aware how feminised seeds are made. A female plant is forced to switch sex and produce male pollen (by whatever means, usually chemically induced).
In theory this pollen still contains the female gene, so when used to pollinate another female plant the offspring seeds should be 100% female instead of 50/50 male female.

However there are a few problems- effectively the female plant used must be susceptible to hermaphrodism for the process to work. This may well be bad...
Another thing- it is very easy for a seedbank to take a prized female clone, force it to produce pollen and then mate it to itself- this serves as a shortcut to fix traits like taste, potency, plant structure etc but the offspring will be very inbred with much duplication of genes tending to result in low vigour and other problems.

So I go the long way round and use regular seeds, sex the plants and discard the males (or use them to produce pollen w/e).
Some people here have had good results with fem seeds, others have had hermaphrodites or crappy plants with no vigour.

I'd start a thread or post in one already started about feminised seeds (there have been a few) and people with 1st hand experience will hopefully chime in.

Thanks a lot FG!

I'll take into consideration all your words and I'll take the normal street in having a good plant. I still remain with the last part of my question. Is there any threads about serious seedbanks? For sure people must have had good and bad experiences. I can say I've had 2 bad ones by now and I'd love to avoid the 3rd one.

Thanks again for your prompt reply!

Cheers, R
