2nd cycle growing
Since we are generally growing under lights... and indoors... can some of your experienced growers give me a heads up on this thought... From vegging to bloom... we completed a cycle... is there some sort of requirement in the plants life cycle before it can be sent into another cycle... like a dormant stage requirement. Other than the root base being unindated at the bottom of the growing medium (which in my case is Fox Farms Ocean Forest). Since, from previous experience seeing the root base at the bottom of growing pots, I decided to increase the size of the growing pot from 2 to 3 gallon which gives a full 8 inches more of growing medium in the base of the potting container.
The first cycle gave me such great buds, a purple in color... and I created clones before going into the flowering cycle... Now I have clones coming up around the corner, The first cycle grew about 3 feet tall... healthy flowers at the end of each branch.... which I cut back/down, carefully, 18 inches and stripped the rest of the plant free of all flowers. They ( I have 6 of these ) now have the look of bright green (healthy not dormant) rose bushes out of season ready for planting... Do I need to put these aside for a season? Will I get as good a crop if I begin another vegative cycle right away? What is your experience on this? |

I have not played around with this idea. With clones always being pulled gives me the ability to change out mediums & not have oversized root balls. I can foresee problems just from these two aspects. Your rootballs will become huge & cause problems for itself. The soil will become drained of any nutes causing a need to over feed just to have basic nute requirments. This might work for 1-2 'seasons' but, after that I just see problems in transplanting. Your plant will become a tree & transplanting a tree that just is getting bigger and bigger with each 'season'... idk

Interesting thought....
I could see that... I have a friend who has a huge stump of a plant in his foyer at his home... It makes sense that the root base would overgrow any potting container, which was why I considered upgrading each cycle to a larger container... and regular soil... not only will not dispurse nutrients but without the ability to flush... according to the feeding schedule... I can see root rot and damage becoming a long term issue...
One of my thoughts was to create as big a base as possible each cycle to facilitate more and more fresh branch growths in order to increase yield per plant... It would require doubling up on nutrient requirments as well as increased flushing cycles. I'm getting that. This could be interesting seeing how many cycles I can mantain a plant... Considering my grow room restrictions I guess 5 gallon buckets will be my max capacity. Thanks for the feedback... |

Honestly, I wouldn't do it, unless the plant was super special and all the clones you took from it died.
I think it's a waste of valuable resources. I would just get a fresh mother from each crop.

So the plant is showing new vegetative growth? I assume you have had the plant under a veg light cycle since harvest.
You can trim the roots. But only once it has started to re veg.
