150 watt HPS
worth it?
I never hear about people using these. Sun System HPS 150 Grow Light with 150 Watt HPS Bulb | eBay It says it puts out 16,000 lumens. I have to 105 watt cfls for flowering atm and i want more. The cfls total out to be about 12,000 lumens i think. If i keep em close enough that is. I was thinking a combo of those two with this HPS, OR two more 105 watt cfls. The light would be in a 3x1x3 flower box (boxthing in closet) so only a few plants. Im gonna pack as many as possible into there though too lol. How hot would this thing get? I think i could take care of it with some well placed computer fans. Also How safe are these lights? Parts of the box may be made of cardboard lol. Im not looking to burn my apartment down for a little extra nug knowwhatimean Thanks in advance ![]() Im gonna make a log of this grow btw. Should be up by the end of this week. Lotta LSTing and random tinkering. Looking to start up a continuing grow with it as well.

Having said that a 150w won't produce that much heat anyway, maybe as much as both your cfls together. Those lights are fairly safe but making a cab of cardboard or other tinder like material is not a good idea. Imo it would be simpler to just add another cfl rather than the 150.

i would say that you are going to have a hell of a time trying to put a light, that in my opinion does not fit with your lil harry potter cuppard. lol.
the light is going to generate plenty of heat, that and the cardboard make me think that the most important part of a grow is the design. just scratch your box and +1 it. you have to remember that HID lights are little suns. FUCKIN BRIGHT! so if light leak is potentially an issue for you id recommend you go back to the drawing board for a sec.

lol i just ran out of wood. And really dont feel like cutting any more. It is a pretty sweet set up to be honest. I have that lil flower box, a nice veg chamber, and a bigger veg box for mom/bigger plants. It has a solid frame and everything. One of the sides might be cardboard is all.
It wouldn't be hard at all to work, even simpler than the CFLs i thought as with them you gotta move em a lot to keep them close. I was thinking the only issue really was heat. eh i guess i can just load up on more cfls as those bitches put off basically 0 heat.

I've had a couple of 150 systems. They do get quite warm but you can take care of that with your computer fans. I'd keep one between the canopy and the lite also. You can get your plants quite close, 4 to 6 inches, with the fan between the lite and canopy. Not a lot of penetration but if you put your cfls just right you could get some nice bud. You do know that a 250W is next and then a 400W and then....

Also, it's from ebay. I didn't read the seller info or much so if it's used, why are they sellling it? imo if you going to spend real time growing or adding more ladies to your garden in the future, I might think about a higher watt light anyways, for the future plants // garden. imo, best to have 2-3 larger lights than 10+ smaller ones.

Do the math. Look at your electric bill & find the exact price per kwh. Than convert the light watts to kwh. Total watts divided by 1000.
(watts / 1000)x < per kwh cost > = How much per hour to run your light. This is how people figure out thier dry weight 'to' cost of electric to grow, ratio. I hope this helps. Brass
