If you're using coco, are you keeping any eye on the EC of the run off? This should give clues about how much nutrients your plants are using and if they're overfed or whatever.

Maybe start a thread with a picture or two for best advice- it's a bit hard to say what's going on otherwise.
I'm not a coco expert TBH but can likely tell from a pic if a plant is overfed.
just started a thread but can not suss out how to put the images on there, any ideas farmergiles:confused :

up until two days ago my ec was 1.1 and then i put it up to 1.5 and ened up with a slight bit of yellow on the tips of the first leaves only.
i droped the ec to 1.3 and also lifted the lights from 50 cm to 70 cm. so far they have not got no worse ( fingers crossed).
below are a few pics of how they are doing, i would be grateful for any feedback as im just a beginner and not exactly sure what caused the slight yellow on the end of the leaves.
hope that has got them up there farmergiles, be lost with out you, just got to suss how to create my own thread now. pics are a bad been taken off phone, but can still see the tips are a bit yellow

Ah ok. They really hardly need any food at all atm, just give them plain water for a bit IMO.

If you start a thread I can move the relevant posts across if you like.

I moved some posts across from jed's thread.

The yellowing tips are the classic sign of overfeeding.

As far as I can see temperature is not too hot- normally the tips of the serrations on the edges of the leaves would curl up a bit if it were. So 70cm is probably an ideal distance for now.

Feeding at EC 1.3 is still high for small plants like these IMO, you might want to lower it now and gradually raise it as the plants grow and establish their roots..
They look pretty healthy atm, though the sodium light makes it hard to see the colours.

What is the EC of your water without any nutes? Are you using tapwater?

With coco it is difficult to overwater (as long as your pots drain properly) so I'd aim for about 15% run off each time. Keep an eye of the EC of the run off as well as the EC you feed them at. Checking the pH of the run off isn't a bad idea either.
Don't feed them with freezing cold water- they don't like it.

Never let coco dry right out- this will in effect raise the EC in the coco and fry the plants.

Hope that helps

Vbulletin is set so you can only upload an image once. You can copy and insert the image url into a post though.

Left click on the image you want to insert and choose copy image location.

Use the insert image button, past the image url in.

In some ways this is handier as you can format your post with the picture(s) anywhere you want rather than at the end.

thanks again farmergiles, i started feeding at 1.1 ec and the plants were doing fine but when i rose it to 1.5 thats when i noticed the tips where a little burnt and now you mention it the leaves where also curling up slightly, but since i lowered the ec down to 1.3 and the lights lifted 20 cm they dont seem to of got any worse. i will drop it down a bit mo when its time to feed later.
the ec in my tap water (left to stand for at least 24 hrs) is is less than 0.2 also the run off has been the same ec that goes in, i may have been running a bit to much off as ive been getting about a 30% run off, thats something i will lower again also. ive been watering them with a PH of 5.8 but run into a problem last night as i lent my meter out for a few hours and it came back broke and the PH in my storage tank does raise a bit over night so i had to guess how much to lower it but think i will be fine till the new one comes (by tomorrow hopefully).
I haven't been checking the PH run off but agian will start doing so when the new meter comes.
they haven't run dry as yet ive been feeding them once a day but did read that some have been feeding them 1 to 3 times a day.
thanks again i will get some more pics up when they start to get a bit bigger.
ps the burning was only on the biggest leaves and not all the plants got burnt, i had some in pots which where smaller and further from the light and they had no probs at ll

Sounds like you're on the right track.

30% run off is fine really, it is hard to overwater coco.

Edit- EC 0.2 tapwater- is good .

Thanks, the only thing that i didn't mention was that the lights are running 21 hrs on hope thats ok, they were on 18 / 6 but seemed to be a bit slow growing so i upped it to 23 for about the last 5 days, plus i read that hps may not veg as quick as other choices but are sufficient for the plants full cycle.
also when you say 15% run off, does that means 15% of the actual water that goes into the coco not 15% of the size of the pot that your feeding, hope it don't sound dull but just making sure that im getttng everything as right as i can

IMO 20/4 is great but I've run 24 hrs, also 16/8, 18/6. They were all fine tbh but 20/4 ftw in veg IME.

Other people have their own take on this .

A benefit of running 24hrs on is it tends to stop mommas or pappas autoflowering.

Congrats on your grow. My question to the forum is. I have two W.W.'s and they are almost 11 days old but they are no where near the size of these plants. Is it because of the 600W bulb, nutes, genetics, container size or all of the above?

My plants are under 100w H.O. Floros.

Thanks,

Thanks, i'm really not sure tbh as its my first grow, but what i can say is that mine where pretty slow starting off ( about up until the first 10 or 11 days )but as soon as they got to a certain size (about the size your at now) they just seem to take off and i'm now seeing big improvements everyday, it gets a pleasure to watch em grow.
ps i did start off in yogurt containers and thought that they where the reason for them having the slow start, but it may have been a combination of that and not watering daily because coco needs water daily, but i would transplant to a bigger pot cos mine after 10 days in the small pot surprisingly was quite full of root, but that's just a guess mate.

i was the same same when i seen another guy (jed) his where looking great and i thought what am i doing wrong, but as soon as i transplanted them and realised a had to water daily they soon shot up. i'll try and get some pics up on friday as i may be repotting em into 10 litre buckets where they will stay and they will be 14 days from the date that they where put into soil then as ii had them soaking in the wet paper towel method previous to that.
