400w or 600w

I've been considering starting a grow recently, and I've decided it will really be worth the initial investment. I'm currently smoking an ounce every 3 weeks, so I want to be able to get at least 6 ounces every three months to keep things cushioned. This is what my room looks like. It's 64"x 64" and I was planning to use about 3'x 5' for the actual grow area.

The 12"x 20" box on the left side is a shelving unit that goes almost all the way up to the ceiling. The 12" box on the right side is just a shelf that's about 44" high. My ceiling is also 9' high. I'm really thinking the 600w would be best since I have a somewhat odd shaped grow area. I would really like some input from some more experienced growers, and it would be awesome if you could tell me why I should go with one particular wattage over the other.

Are you going to section off the 3X5 area? Either way, the square footage can handle the 600 watter. There a chart around here somewhere showing the optimum wattage/lumens per square foot. i think it's like 40 to 50 watts per square foot.

yep.

40 to 50 watts per foot, minimum.

with 600 watts you'll need ventilation.

actually you probably already know, with any size indoor grow you'll need ventilation.

600 is great if you can get rid of the heat and you're not overloading your circuits. You don't want to burn your place down!

A lot of newer digital ballasts are switchable between different wattages. This is very handy.

600 watts is only 6 Amps. (approximately)

standard outlet should deliver 20 Amperes.

In America.
