help with PH

hi guys,

I´m an old poster in free for all, but my first time here.

I have three hydro grows under my belt and they were pretty good, that was some years ago. I have a small hydro garden now, some of the leaves in my plants curled a bit and have some yellowing, I tested the ph and its high, bout 7.5 to 8.0

I live in a cribbean island now, and have no access to comercialy available ph down/up, any suggestions on how to lower ph? I just poured a bit of lemon juice into the reservoir, will this help?

your help will be greatly apreciated.

peace, Wirikuta

Dry citric acid, apple cider vinegar, bloodmeal, cottonseed meal, used coffee grounds, lemon juice, and worm casings will all lower ph organically. I believe I've read that nearly all nitrogen sources will.

and how the hell you been doin these days.

hi Roach,

thanks for the advice, PH is down to normal after half a lemon juice.

I´m doing just great, sorry for being away so long, to tell you the truth, I am a peace loving person, and back in the day when I posted more oftenly, there was too much hostility for my taste, so I simply stopped posting. I have the feeling that things are better now, so I´ll stick around.

I´m living on an island, as I said, sold my house in the city and moved here, and built a beautiful home, I am a diving instructor, and I´m living in a piece of paradise. got rid of a horrible marriage and remarried a wonderful woman, I am happy.

I had never been 100% happy, there was always something missing. I compare it to a pizza, I never had it whole, there was always a coupple of slices missing, now I have the whole pizza.

shoot me a pm if you feel like it,

peace, Wirikuta

Malt vinegar (mallic acid is it's chemical name I think) always worked a treat for me.

Lemon juice or citric acid should work ok.

The pH can change quite fast especially if the plants are growing quickly.

If pH is swinging too rapidly a bigger reservoir should slow any changes.

I´m using a 24 litre (about 6 gallon) reservoir, I have nine females about 4-5 inches tall, growing rapidly, the lights will come in two hours and then I´ll run another test. I´ll keep you posted and many thanks for your help.

If you inspect your plants every day this might be ok.
But it's not massive, if you need to be away for a few days at a time you might want to increase the size.

If I was speccing a system I'd probably go for about 2 gal per plant minimum, but if you can keep on top of the pH with what you've got then all is good.

ph was up again, right now I cant use another reservoir, I live in a caribbean island and there´s no hydro shop, do you have an idea as why it keeps going up?

Wirikuta is a site, sacred to the Huichol Indians high in the mountains of central Mexico, between the Sierra Madre Occidental and the Zacatecas ranges.

Wirikuta is the sacred land of the Huichols' deified ancestors. Huichols carry out yearly pilgrimages to Wirikuta or Huiricuta and collect peyote - a cactus containing hallucinogens - along the way. The peyote is eaten during special ceremonies and, they believe, enables the Huichols to commune directly with their ancestors and deities. The pilgrimage is one of the highlights of the Huichols' religious year. The site is currently in danger by mining projects.

I'm surprised no one has asked what the laws regarding marijuana are where you live Wirikuta.

I lived there for three years, but started going long ago.

The marijuana laws there are (in theory) same as the rest of Mexico, but the place is so isolated from the rest of the world that you feel much more confortable about it. it is also the land of the sacred Hikuri (peyote).

What hydro system you are using Wirikuta?

(Depending on your system) You might use a a storage bin or two with lids? Maybe $10 or $15 for some 1/2 inch pipe (or whatever size is common where you live) and some water cistern connectors might do the trick. Tis stuff should be fairly easily available and pretty cheap in most places.

What nutrients are you using?

Normally pH can swing because of the uptake of nutrients by the roots changing the chemical balance of the nutrient solution.

At a guess I'd say your plants might be growing vigorously and your reservoir size is a little small for 9 plants.

More info and or pics would probably improve feedback.

pretty tight in theory, but here the cops wont mind you as long as you dont screw up big time. of course you cant smoke in public and the like, but as long as you keep some common sense you´ll be ok.

it´s a small town, the island in itself is about 50 something kilometers by 16, but as I said the town is small, and you can go about your business with no worries, cops are relaxed because there´s basically no violent crime, so they get bored LOL
