Oh I dunno about that. They have obviously afflicted your vision, since ya can't read a calendar any more, and you are 7 to 900 dollars poorer, so you've got that goin' for ya... which is nice.

Been under LEDs for 3 weeks. Plant in veg looks very healthy but has stayed shorter than under the HPS, which I like. Plant in flower has good node spacing so the stretch was better than normal. The buds seem a bit smaller but not by a whole lot. So far I'm satisfied. I won't know the difference in electric bills for at least a month from my next bill.

Technology wise, I'm still in the 20th century(mid). No camera, no cell phone, no care.

Week 4. Plants look great. The plant in flower should start thickening right around now so this is when I'll know if I wasted my money. Can these lites finish. They are certainly capable of doing what HID can do in the veg room so I'll be sticking with the LEDs there for sure.

Just finished week 5. These LEDs are working beyond my wildest expectations. My plant in flower is thickening beautifully, I'd say better than HID at this point if I hade to rate them. I just put a second plant in flower, which also looks great, and moved my plant from the seedling box to the veg room so I'm back up to full production. So far, veg lites are just as capable as HID and flower lites have a slight advantage. Still waiting on electric bill.

are you using two different LEDs, one for flower, one for Veg? Two of the same type of lights? Or are you only using LED for flower right now at this time?

And what spectrum do your lights put out? Did you get one of the adjustable spectrum ones?

This guy on Reddit has a PHD in photobiology (I think that's what it was)... and he schools everybody about LEDs. His grows are amazing. overview for LEDwizard you can go back through his post history and learn more about LEDs than you'd ever know what to do with.

Here are his guides to a badass DIY LED setup.

Legit as shit!
Gotta try one of those. We have some stacked grow beds where the bottom is a 4' wide trough, one foot deep, for growing hydro lettuce and greens on a DWC raft. There's a table height, one foot deep, ebb & flow, gravel filled bed above that where we grow tomatoes, peppers, squash, etc. The underside of the table bed has a bunch of scratch built CFLs for supplemental light for the lettuce (ambient in the greenhouse isn't enough for well shaped, even growth), but these look like they should provide cheaper, superior, PAR. Might have a few heat channeling challenges but adding a sheet metal cover to the entire bottom of my table height bed could provide a giant heat sink while also adding ideal bottom heat uniformly to the plants in the gravel filled bed above (the beds already have a thin concrete bottom with PEX tubing that acts like a giant thermal battery).

Been waiting for LED's to drop in price to take advantage of the lower load on our PV, but this looks like it has some promise. Not the most elegant electrical solution, but for a cheap down and dirty it certainly seems to fill the bill. For my use I think I'd like something a little more modular in terms of serviceability but that's just my thing. I have lots of projects where being able to configure custom fixture sizes would be tremendously convenient. Thanks a bunch for the links Bearsy!

Looks like he added a giant continuous ducted hood not included in his basic build tutorial. Simple enough.

My veg room used to be a 250W HPS and it is now a 400W LED. Flower room used to be two 400W HPS and is now two 700W LEDs. My plant 5 weeks in flower was vegged under HPS. The plant I put in the flower room yesterday was vegged under LED.

To be honest, I don't know shit about lite spectrums and I don't feel the need to learn about them. I don't know shit about Botany either but I grow ass kicking pot.

I bought the cheapest ones available. They didn't have the adjustable spectrum option. They came in 3 types. The first they claimed would work throughout the plant's life, like HPS. The other 2 were specific for veg only or flower only which they charged extra. Those are the ones I bought. The $900plus I spent on those three lites wouldn't buy one of the "brand" name type but they work.

7 weeks into flower. Plant looks great. There is no doubt these LEDs work as well as the HPS I had been using. There doesn't seem to be a noticeable difference as far as growing other that less stretch during flower which is a good thing. I also have a second plant at week 2 of flower and it also is very healthy and on schedule bud size wise. The real difference is the electrical savings, less noise with 5 less fans, no fucking ballasts, peace of mind safety wise although I always have used good equipment. I definitely am sold on LEDs and will use them henceforth. I fucking love saying henceforth.
