just curious...
i've never grown before, but was wondering what your average yield is and about how many weeks it takes from planting a germinated seed to harvest...
i've looked around but haven't found exact answers all around the board... plus different strains have different characteristics...

The problem is, as growing is natural process there never will be any exact answer to your question. There are so many millions of factors that could affect the rate of growth and yield.
Just go by the averages, they are pretty close.

Jeebus,
Yield is impossible to guess as it depends on so many factors. You can pull as little as a half ounce per plant to as much as 5 or 6 ounces per plant in an indoor growing environment depending on environment, care, strain and grow style. You have to think about grow style and strain, a single little SOG (sea of green) plant will pull very little on it's own compared to a larger ScrOG (Screen Of Green) plant but the yield per square foot per watt will probably be similar. Over at OG they tend to say new growers will get about 0.5grams of dried produce per watt of light for the indoor grower but this is only if the space is used to maximum efficiency which is doubtful given that your first grow will likely be from seed and likely produce a 50/50 male to female ratio. IMHO about quarter of a gram per watt of lighting is an average for first grows. You'll soon be over and above the 0.5g per watt mark though jebbers. It's not too hard. 0.5g per watt per month is a little harder, but definately acheivable ![]() As to time, first cycle will be probably a mimimum of 14 weeks (6 weeks veg, 8 weeks flower) but after this first cycle (assuming you found a nice mother plant) you can cut down this time (as well as wastage by no longer having to deal with males) by using clones. Anyway holy one, you should definately give it a go (grow), it's immeasurably satisfying. Possibly even more so than a nice wank over lesbian s&m porn on your new lappy. Peace. SS

thanks maing... greatly appreciated.
i was thinking about building a grow cabinet with a self contained carbon filter, but dunno how hard that is going to be. how much space is required per plant...?

Always the one to do stuff right.
Good stuff man. Per plant? Again, depends on growing style. I've ScrOGged out single plants that cover a couple of yards of canopy but by the same token ickle single kola'd plants (one growing tip and a couple of wee side branches) that you could get them 1 per square foot. I would say IMHO that for grow cabs the best way to go is with 4 reasonably large tied and trained plants(maybe a modular ScrOG?). This strikes a decent compromise between time to yield and amount of plants (time to jail!!). If you are building a cab you may wish to include a mum/clone/veg area so you can grow continuously (rotationally) an harvest a plant every two weeks (or however you planned) there is one or two issues with this surrounding different finishing times amongst strains but you soon come to learn the characteristics of the strains you work with. I copied some old posts from elsewhere into another thread here which may give you some helpful hints too: Chillls - Wanna Be A Grower In the immortal words of the Nike corporation, Just Do It. Nothing nicer than some of your own homegrown smoke, even a tit wank. SS

So you're going to go for it?
As they say around here "nice one geezer." We wait with baited breath. Good luck and good growing. ![]() SS

I'd reccomend about 1 square foot per plant. With a 400w lamp, which is more than the average personal smoker would need, you could get about a half pound of of 9 18" - 24" plants in a 3x3 space. You could also use a 250w in a 30"x30" space and put a plant every 10" . Plants must be kept shorter, the lower the wattage. I would hightly reccomend getting a prepetual cycle going if its for personal use. Youll also need a 24" dual flouro for cloning. Use one warm and one cool bulb.
Example - Grow one mother under an additional light (250MH). Keep rooted clones ready all the time. Veg some clones, say three or so under the same light. Every 3 weeks, put three plants into bud (250HPS). The average cylce is 8 weeks + one week transition (veg to bud) so 9 weeks total. This way you'll get bud every three weeks. With that system you could expect around 1.5 oz per harvest, every 3 weeks. Money doesn't seem to be an issue for you, so I wont get into nigger-rigging procedures. Everything you need is at the hydro store and Home Depot. The more you spend the less assembly/building is required.

A humble question, my seeds have sprouted under flouro's and are about 3" tall. They have not grown anymore in the last week. Is it now the time to move them to my 400 watt M.H. lights? This is also my first grow. I have the "Bible" but there are no time tables in it. Thanks to anyone that'll give advice. Peace.

Difficult to be sure without pics but have a look at the bottom of the pot- you should see a few white roots poking out of the soil. If so your seedlings should have enough of a root system to cope with the MH.
Start the MH a good height above the plants, say 2.5 or 3 feet and move it closer by increments so they can get used to the powerful light. MH gives off a lot of heat. More info would help especially pics . Feel free to start your own thread .
