So after increased traffic, requests from you guys and noticing some newbie questions slipping off page one without an adequate answer some changes have been planned for GTGH.

Below is the original thinking and plan as discussed by the mods

1) Forums

Basic Questions

-Aimed at the new grower with basic questions.
-Prominent display of FAQ and other resources.

Prime need for Yahooka as it is a small resource in a world of well used, well populated and very good growing sites.

Advanced Theories

-Aimed at advanced growers to discuss theory and technique.
-Discussion of articles and threads from elsewhere.

A few people may use this, reasonable but not big demand for advanced discussion at the moment but it will mean the threads that do get a little deep won't get lost amongst the rest.

Strain and Seedbank Discussion

- Aimed at discussion of strains and breeding as well as reports on seedbanks and their service.
- Sticky thread with template for strain reports, these are reports of finished product from someone who grew it, they must include a grower experience level.
- Strain reports periodically moved into a new section of the FAQ.
- Sticky thread with template for reports on seedbanks.
- Seedbank reports periodically moved to new section of the FAQ.

Growlogs, Plant and Bag Pictures

- Fairly self explanatory.
- comprehensive finished growlogs can be condensed and copied to Strains forum.

Historic Growing The Good Herb Content

All non active threads from current GTGH.
Viewable but not postable to.
Sticky stating to pm a mod if you want a thread in there reactivated.
Can move historic content over to new forums piecemeal.


2) Strain Template

Grow room specs
Indoor or out
Lighting if indoor (watts per square foot and type (HPS, MH etc), lamp details if you feel detailed)
Medium (mix and system)
Ventilation and average temperatures (describe ventilation plus average day and night temps)
Grow style (trimmed, LST, SOG, ScrOG)
Fertilisers used (veg and flower ferts - type and amount)

Plant
Germination: (x out of x seeds grew, method (dirt, paper towel etc and marks out of 10)
Vigour of vegetative Growth: (describe and marks out of 10)
Vigour of flowering growth: (describe and marks out of 10)
Yield: (Amount per plant and marks out of 10)
Ease of growth: (describe and marks out of 10)

Dried Bud
Appearance / Bag Appeal: (Consider the trichome coverage, the quality of manicure, the colour, the density, the

amount of bud against stem/leaf etc, describe and marks out of 10)
Smell: (Consider the odour on opening the bag, on crumbling and whilst smoking, describe and marks out of 10)
Taste: (Consider the smoking flavour, describe and marks out of 10)
Head High Quality: (What does it do to you as regards cerebral activity, describe and marks out of 10)
Head High Duration: (How long were you thinking, describe and marks out of 10)
Body High Quality: (Body stone, effects on muscles, joints, couch lock etc, describe and marks out of 10)
Body High Duration: (How long were you warm and fuzzy, describe and marks out of 10)


3) Seedbank Report Template

Selection: (Plenty of choice? Describe + marks out of 10)
Price: (Good value for money? Describe + marks out of 10)
Service: (Consider time taken to receive seeds, any prolems with packaging, customer service if you deal with them. Describe + marks out of 10)
Stealth Rating: (Do not describe the stealth methods, simply tell us if tehy were discrete, marks out of 10)

4) To Do

- Put plan to mod forum (need forum names and descriptions)

good ideas, all of them. But i don't know about combining grow logs and pics. IMO, grow logs should fall under either "basic" or "advanced" growing, because the point of a grow log is to describe the methods/steps of one's grow-op. I don't know how many growers there are on Yahooka, but if there are enough people interested in grow logs, maybe they deserve a separate forum altogether?

you should keep the picture forum separate, as i'm sure it will be the most crowded, and grow logs would probably be pushed back from the first page.

this is my opinion, take it however you want.

^ It's a good point and one I considered, the difficulties are mentioned by yourself, there probably isn't enough loggers for a whole forum but the logs will end up pushed back by the picture posts... after a joint though it became clear, a log inherently is ever updating and hence will quickly be bounced to the top again...?

Or maybe it was good bud? Blah!

It is fairly obvious the mods at GTGH have been putting a lot of time and effort into this.

I think the format layout is nice and streamlined.

The complaints department for seed banks and ripoffs? ... touchy, but with the right management would be a world of help to all.

The classics?

Flower me short. Take the posts out that don't GIVE info to streamline it and you have a perfect part of the FAQ.

I think we should talk our photog buddy Phat into doing a specific LST piece for the FAQ.
With his picture taking ability and his interest in toying about...

A few other things I can think of?

Those silly little contests every now and again.
I will volunteer for that if you decide this would be something to look at.
Seeds, bongs what ever people will donate.
We have a couple woodworkers on the boards including moi so...
Count on me for stuff if you go this way.

The plant pics. Can we have gallery space so we can link to pics in my.. err our threads?
Might get to be a little spensive on the serverside tho hey?

THCbuz would have the outdoor side of the FAQ wouldn't he?

Thanks for the comments guys.

Just one to address specifically, Dan, yes you are right, it's not cheap server wise and the technology to do it also requires further purchases.

Anyway, we are working on the forums as I type this so the change shouldn't be far off this comes alongside us working on ways to increase your security when posting on Yahooka. Don't be surprised to find GTGH closed for posting to at some point later this week/weekend/early next week as we change over to the new format.

These all sound like good changes, and all are improvements.

Although I don't grow, I do enjoy reading about how the plant that I smoke is grown, and seeing the pretty pictures. Keep up the good work growers, for without your kind I would have no sacred herb. Someday I shall join you in growing, but can't until at the very earliest next September (getting a new place, have to see how the landlord and roommates are).
