Post Chapter 49 The Grass Is Always Greener

Many people live with the foolish concept that the grass is always greener somewhere other than where they are. Guilty as charged here because I fell into that for many years. I do believe it was inbred into me as both my parents always had that concept. This is probably why I had four addresses by the time I was four years old. My longest tenure in one place during my childhood was seven years. By the time I was eighteen, I had lived at nine different addresses.

I do have to say this inbreeding continued on through the first several years of my early adulthood, especially through my hitch hiking days. When things went awry, I would just pack up and leave to another place instead of facing up to the issue. Mostly I was just on my own and didn't much care. But I was under the misconception that things would be better elsewhere when they truly were not. This almost got me killed a few times. One thing I finally learned in all my travels was unless you travel to a faraway place, the people are basically the same anywhere in the U.S. Some places are worse than others, but the grass is still not greener even in the very good places. Any place is what you make of it. I always tried to make the best out of wherever I was and still do.

When I had the good fortune of a two year tenure in Japan, there were so many other Americans who didn't want to be there and couldn't wait to leave. They would count down the days on calendars. I enjoyed myself there as I try to do anywhere else. I learned some of the language and the culture, and went to places most "G.I.'s" didn't know about. However, many other military members were not very honest and the corruption went on then as it does today. Once again, basically the same type of people. When people are dishonest themselves, they believe just about all others are also.

The real sad part is many still believe in the biggest lie ever told which was all started in Washington, D.C. and finalized into law in 1937, then became much worse in 1970. This makes me ashamed to be an American and not believe in my country or it's leaders much at all. It was my country that started it all and took it all around the world. However, many of my fellow citizens have finally figured out how badly they have been lied to through the years. You just can't fool all of the people all of the time. Unfortunately, the government I pay taxes to still hasn't gotten the message. I do have to say that for now, the grass is a bit greener in the states that have gone to some type of relegalization. But the people are still basically the same.
A true patriot is always ready to stand up against his own government.
