Canadian Federal Election

Well its almost 10am ET and the polls in BC and the Yukon should close in 10 minutes.

It will be interesting to see how this turns out, but I'm not overly optimistic.

My expectation is that there will be some seat shuffling, but Harper will continue with a minority government and the left will be more divided between the Liberals and the NDP (with the ndp making some gains in ontario).

Anyways I am gonna go start watch the results role in and drink beer before bed and at least get an idea of whats what.

p.s. I am making this thread for Canadians, but also so that Americans have a clue beyond their own borders.

Yea thats kinda what I assumed.

It will be on the news tommorow though, when the results are in, I bet.

Looks right now like a conservative minority, but it is REAL fucking close to a majority...

damn...

I just don't understand conservative voters, there must be something I don't 'get'.

talk about the french one more time and i will drive to brampton and stomp you out kid.

but seriously, what else did you expect?

nobody is voting for the liberals, because the leader is french.

noone is voting green (excluding everyone i know) because its too risky

conservative is the safe, easy choice.
and most of the time people make the safe, easy choice.

I voted NPD so Harper won't get a majority. God damn, that was close!

lol i noticed that as well, i was watching a few american channels yesterday and this morning just to see if the election was mentioned, and nothing. It's pretty sad actually...i also found it funny that America has been campaigning for their election for a year now.... and Canada gets it done in 30 days lol

I voted green, I've always voted green.
I thought it was good to see that NDP got 7 extra seats, and I was disappointed that the Liberals lost 16.
But still, I was glad to see that it's still a minority government.

Harper really scares me, does anyone remember when he was Reform?

I think thats because in America, the campaign is what people actually care about. It's just another competition that people can compete in, and this give people the feeling of being superior to others. Once the new president is elected, everyone goes back to not giving a shit.

They always get a lot of votes. Thats what always screws everyone. But i like Gilles Duceppe (sp?) for some reason. I like that he's blunt. During the debate he flat out said something like, "i'd love to be prime minister but lets be honest thats not going to happen and it isn't going to happen for the other 3 of you sitting here," lol

harper sucks but can you really say that any of the other current party leaders would be any better? this election was an obvious attempt from harper to get a majority because the timing is so perfect. theres really nobody that i can see who would be a better replacement.

canada needs a charismatic politician before we can get rid of harper

The "Radical Marijuana Party" managed to get 378 votes in my riding, me not being one of them. Thats a lot more than I thought they'd get...
