i have no problem with every convict having to give up their DNA. my problem with this is they are going to be taking DNA from people awaiting trial, not convicted on charges after a trial. that means that you could hypothetically be arrested for smoking a joint, and while awaiting trial, have your DNA taken. with great power comes great responsibility and i just dont see that happening anytime soon with our current state of government. and apparently they arent making a distinction between a violent/non-violent offender. also, if this was happening a year ago under bush's watch, ppl would be outraged.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, isn't that following your logic? "If you aren't a criminal you have nothing to worry about?" Furthermore, people could argue it would make for a great deterent for crime. As retarded as an argument that would be. But watch it happen sometime in the future.

the fbi gots one, in quantico, va.

Federal Bureau of Investigation - CJIS Division - Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System

but i agree that we should have a centralized fingerprint database that local police officers could have access to without the fbi's assistance. i just think that this whole dna thing could easily be manipulated by someone for their own personal vendettas/self-interest. thats what scares me the most. but i also do think that it will do good things, though. its a double edged sword that ppl, i dont think, are asking themselves "is this the best idea?"

I don't think I really have to make my stance on this known... It should be pretty obvious to anyone who's read my handful of A&P topics. Basically I disagree with your opinion but obviously I'm not going to persuade you to my side of the argument, and vice-a-versa.

I respect that...

But the shit I said here isn't my opinion more as it is just food for thought...I personally side more with you and shai, the other side was just poorly represented here...

also the problem with DNA is that you coulda been somewhere or with someone, then a crime commited there later when u were long gone and your dna will still be there and you will be hauled in for questioning and possibly charged for something u literally had nothing to do with.

I think a lot of people are confusing apples for oranges, this measure is not comparable to putting cameras on your house or tapping your phone, this is a way to find criminals quicker, in other words, if your little 7 year old girl is raped by the neighbor who has never been convicted, it can now be easier to catch him. So unless you are the rapist in this case, this is a good step forward, they are not violating your rights just because they keep your DNA in record in case some day you rape the neighbor's 7 year old girl...

Like others have said, it only angers the criminals, in other words, they can have 5 litters of my blood and if I don't commit a crime, its worth shit to them, in fact its better this way, because they could find the criminals without harassing innocent suspects. I don't understand how people think this is a bad thing, it works like your social security number, its just an identification thing.

Think things through before you protest them or believe them, use your mind and give it some thought, let it swirl around your head and then make a decision about it.

I'm not condemning anyone, all I said was that people should think things through before forming an opinion on a subject. I don't see how you could feel condemned because of that.
