United States of Texas

So I was watching John Stewart the other day and he mentioned how Gov. Rick Perry has "threatened" to seceed from the good ole U.S. of A.

Apparently he (meaning Texas as a whole) are fed up with the taxing, spending and debt this country has accumulated. He said he have strayed too far from what the founding fathers would have wanted.

From the Article:
"Perry repeated his running theme that Texas' economy is in relatively good shape compared with other states and with the "federal budget mess." Many in the crowd held signs deriding President Barack Obama and the $786 billion federal economic stimulus package."

Quote from Rick Perry:
"There's a lot of different scenarios," Perry said. "We've got a great union. There's absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, you know, who knows what might come out of that. But Texas is a very unique place, and we're a pretty independent lot to boot."

Full article:
Gov. Rick Perry: Texas Could Secede, Leave Union

Just wanted to get some input on how ya'll felt about it. I personally think it's a great idea and even Ron Paul has supported the idea.

Wow!! We just recently moved here and I am so into Texas, so far. So far, I'm a little scared and a little excited about the whole "seceding the union" thing, just the same!!

All talk. The ramifications are too large.

I would be really interested to know how much of the stimulus money he accepted, though.

So they would just be there own country relying on mostly oil and gas (Texas Net Revenue by Source - Fiscal 2008) and as soon as that runs out or we find an economically sound way to replace oil and gas, they would become poor asses.

Ha. You can have all the Texas you want. I believe, as Americans we should be coming together as one, not segregating ourselves further. Putting the blame on our current leader does nothing but show ignorance. There is a thing called “History”. Sometimes we need to look back to look forward. If you actually research our fiscal climate over the past 10 years, and tell me it’s all Obama’s fault, I would think you read a lot of propaganda emails, instead of researching actual facts… I am not in support of any politician or any government, but we have to do the best with what we have. Maybe if we wouldn’t have started a war that had no relevance to us, we would have saved how many trillions of dollars? Legalize Marijuana, tax it, regulate it like tobacco and alcohol… huge boost in economy. Hemp; medicine, fuel, clothing all grown within our country… People need to wake up and quit blaming everyone else about their problems and do something about it. Where were all the conservatives when Bush invaded our privacy and took us on a wild goose chase costing trillions of dollars. And don’t forget, we had a SURPLUS before Bush came into office. What’s the national deficit since he’s been in office? I’ll let you research that answer. Anywho, Texas can rot in it’s own stupidity for all I care. Stubborn, close-minded, prideful, greedy citizens is what I mostly see in the “wonderful” state of Taxes, I mean Texas. Just my opinion.

Have a beautiful day. And yes I live in Texas. For the time being. Economy might be good, but the mentality is "shoot it, kill it, ask questions later"

America is over, there will be no "coming together" especially when China cuts off our credit. We are broke and there is no denying that. That said, if Texas actually wants to survive, maybe seceeding isn't the best way to go about it, but sticking with the U.S. doesn't sound too great either($786 billion out of thin air).

So we want to do something different instead of sticking to the same FAILING system, does that make us the bad guys, super.admin?

Absolutely not. Different approaches need to happen. I don't see succession as a new and different approach, though. Remember the "Civil" War? I think the government has had too much power for way too long, and this nonsense will not stop until something is done to reduce governmental power of it's citizens. People are afraid to speak out. I don't have the answers, I only have questions.

Yes the government is like a growing fungi that won't stop. The way I see it though: The U.S. needs Texas more than Texas needs the U.S. We are a mighty force to be messed with. What this seceed threat is doing is keeping the government in check, making sure they do not expand thier reach any further (Thanks mr. Change). If that don't stop the good ole government, then Texas will/might seceed.

You really believe Texas will successfully remove itself from the USA? Never gonna happen. Successfully. Be like Waco all over the state of Texas.

I'll watch from afar. Good luck.

If you had watched the full Stewart segment, you'd see that Texans polled against it by 75%.

Haha. I kinda figured that... I live here and I never got a choice in the matter. Looks like ole Ricky Perry decided it himself... kinda like Bush saying "God told me to do it". Childish. Just like most people in authoritative roles, takes it on themselves to decide for the masses. But of course, now all the republicrats are on board. Weird how we never heard anything about the Bush stimulus plan that did shit. BUT! we all got money in our pocket, so that's all that matters. That's the only stimulus plan the American people understand. Me Me Me Hypocrites.

the republic of texas makes a mean country fried steak

but srsly, it's funny to my that the gov is entertaining an idea my friends and i thought would be cool in middle school. supposedly when texas became a state we had our right of secession legally documented.

Yeah the people may be againist it, but the fact that we have this card (seceeding) in our back pocket that can help keep the government from too much power is great in my opinion. Now the fact that we could've used it on Bush.....I won't get into that.

Whether it works/goes through or not, I think its great we can call the government out and keep them from strangling our freedoms just a little longer.

If you secede, the U.S. would embargo your ass in to the stone age...or slaughter all of you...

haha oh man, this shit was so funny. And my grandma came out the day he announced it and was bitching and was all upset that he threatened to secede. I just found it immensely amusing. If they actually tried to secede, I could possibly support it. But we have some crazy ass republicans down here and that could turn this little "country" into a giant shit hole. Either way though, it's just funny.
