next best source of energy

Say oil was going to run out in 2012 and you were in charge of deciding which source we were going to use next, which one would you choose to invest your time and money into?

Bioenergy
Coal
Electric Power
Fossil Fuels
Fusion
Geothermal
Hydrogen
Hydropower
Natural Gas
Nuclear
Oil
Solar
Wind
Tidal

For global economic interest, Geothermal. For my individual gain and profit, solar.

Can I only choose one?

I would rely on nuclear to help make the transition, and aim originally to have 50% at least of power come from a combination of geothermal and tidal/hydro (first and foremost) and then supplemented by things like solar, wind and finally coal. Cars and other such things would be electric and take energy from the renewable grid and we would have more leeway for things like farmers tractors and transport trucks to use oil, and if electricity couldn't do it, than natural gas and bio-fuel for heating houses etc.

I'd also stress the importance of proper architecture in new homes and renovations to take advantage of natural power sources.

Oh and magnetic power for things like trains n shit, plus if we could figure out magnetic energy for cars or planes that would be awesome.

I'd much rather see agricultural land go to food sources and maybe textiles before oil.

You left the best one out...

Hemp. It could replace just about all the ones you have listed.

The problem isn't so much what technology is going to be the most successful...It is about re-adjusting as a global society and fixing our problems with population disbursal and resource management... For that to work we would need to invest in a muti-tiered plan utilizing multiple types to sustain a world at work instead of superpowers fighting for control of the resources...
