WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A lone gunman wounded a security guard at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum on Wednesday before being injured by return fire, according to police and a museum statement.

The suspect was identified as James von Brunn, an 88-year-old white supremacist from Maryland, two law enforcement officials told CNN.

Gunfire at the entrance of the museum wounded at least two people Wednesday, emergency officials said.

A private security guard and the shooting suspect were wounded, according to officials of the Washington police.

Sgt. David Schlosser, a spokesman for U.S. Park Police, told reporters a man armed with a "long gun" entered the museum at 12:50 p.m. and fired at a security officer, and both were wounded in the exchange of gunfire.

"My understanding is that two other security officers at the museum returned gunfire at the man that had entered the museum," Schlosser said.

This gent has quite a history. Where I don't agree with some of his beliefs, he did have a plan to arrest the CEO of the Fed Reserve in 1981. Of course, the news media says he is bad for doing this. he was a racist piece of shit. he was talked about several times in the intelligence report. the splc went after his website, and listed it as a hatesite, which it was/is. he was a poster on stormfront and that website potrays him as a god basically, and even in several of his bios, they say he was convicted on those federal charges by a "negro" jury and "jew/negro" attorneys. fuck this guy.

with people who think like this, i think as they age, they get more angry, more bitter, and more resentful, not mellower. they blame all of their problems and the worlds problems on minorities and any ethnic group or religion or sexual preference that doesnt conform with their own twisted and hateful views on society.

A long gun is a rifle. I would imagine a modern one, not an old flint lock or anything of that age.

Ah, and the question mark after the Rofl was an indication of my sort of discomfort and distaste towards bitter old men raised on racism shooting people before they bless us with their departure from this world. That didn't stop me from laughing however.

I guess techinically flint locks aren't historically rifled, hence the long gun, in my experience. Rifles are structed as their name states. I wonder if he had his confederate greys on?

I wonder if some sort of disease associated with age had to do with his inaccuracy? He's not doing much for the cause if he can't at least take one down with him. That or a poorly maintained, perhaps antiqued, long gun?

Damn man I'm up pretty late have to work in the morning.

All I know is that if you want to take someone down using a gun that big, and aren't scared to flash it, you are pissed for sure. Handguns smans guns. The long gun atleast give your target a running start.

All jokes aside. This was a member of some one's family and it's still sad when some one dies, let alone dealing with this fall out.

Its reasonable to question things, and there are supposedly disputable events of the time period, which shouldn't shock anyone since it is the victors who write the history.
