Teabaggers and The Dick Army

The key to medicinal fascism is to make them sick enough to “treat”, but not enough to take profits if they die. Push pills with side effects to buy more pills and spray the food with poisons to make you sick. Then outlaw all natural remedies from the damn commie socialists. War is good for wounding and then treating, Peace ain’t worth a dime. Cures and Prevention don’t bring home the bacon. Last cure was Polio and that took big bucks from the steel braces and leather strap business. Won’t make that mistake again. Ganja leads to being uncomfortable in a herd mentality. Obedient and unquestioning followers make the profits flow easier than truth and concerned citizens. Hemp would take jobs from polluters and OPEC crude oil and no need to kill trees. Bad for business. Prohibition keeps the money where it belongs with the old fascists. Healthy tokers ain’t good fer the drug war biz.

Why I Am A Conservative On Health Care Reform

While billions of dollars are shunted into very few pockets via such abuses, insurance premiums skyrocket, leaving 47 million Americans with no coverage. The result of medicine's libertine spree? The relief agency Remote Area Medical, established to bring health care to rural parts of third-world nations, now sends 60 percent of its missions to U.S. cities such as Los Angeles, California and Knoxville, Tennessee.

Yes, Jeff Christie is Rush Limbaugh!

Jeff Christie was at KQV twice in the early seventies. Jeff originally came to Pittsburgh to work at WIXZ. He came to KQV to do nights in 1972. A number of the phrases we still hear on his Rush
Limbaugh show today on more than 600 stations "all across the fruited plain" were heard when he was on KQV. You can hear a sample of Jeff's work during the 14K days at the Reel Top 40 Radio Archives. He returned for a short time during KQV's final days of top 40 filling in middays before moving on to Kansas City. Rush Limbaugh's EIB network came from a term he used here in Pittsburgh in the early seventies. EIB = Excellence In Broadcasting

On Ordering Us To Buy Insurance Without A Public Option-- by Dave Johnson

It seems the insurance lobby might be able to use the health care crisis to get a law passed ordering us all to buy insurance from their member companies. This is what "mandates" with no "public option" means. This is why the corporate battle against a public option has been so loud -- it is worth a trillion-dollar payday to insurance-company CEOs.

INSURANCE LOBBY SHOOTS PUBLIC OPTION
– $170M smoking gun found at scene

The public option was shot by the health insurance lobby today at the U.S. Capitol, in full view of shocked, shocked representatives and senators. Activity on the capitol campus was halted for hours, although no one noticed any difference.

The health reform proposal was rushed to the emergency room at the Executive Office Building, where it remains in critical condition.

Police arrested the health insurance lobby at the scene. “I’m just a corporate personhood activist trying to protect profits and the sanctity of corporate life,” he shouted as he was wrestled into a fundraiser for Rep. Mike Ross (D-Blue Cross).

A weapon believed used in the attack was recovered at the scene, said by police to be a $170 million double-barreled Influence Special.

Sen. Max Baucus (D-Schering-Plough) denounced the shooting as “abhorent,” but said he continues to support a pro-corporate life movement that seeks to achieve its goals peacefully. “Life begins at incorporation, everyone agrees on that,” Baucus said.

In other news, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell today announced his opposition to First Lady Michele Obama’s new shorter hairstyle. “This will put the government between Americans and their hair stylists,” warned McConnell.

“Only your hairdresser should know for sure,” McConnell added.

I demand congress and the President enact single payer universal health care.

Congress and the President must enact S 703 single payer universal health care and set up a new prescription drug benefit in Medicare Part B covering 80% of the cost of all drugs with no extra monthly premiums, no extra yearly deductible, no means tests, no coverage gaps, and remove the means test for Medicare Part B and until that happens, I refuse to buy ANYTHING from Republican contributor Rite Aid Pharmacies.

Health Insurance Lobby Supports "Bipartisan Reforms," Attacks Public Option (VIDEO)

The lobbying group America's Health Insurance Plans, has launched a seven-figure advertising campaign claiming to support "bipartisan reforms" for health care.

In a testament to the strength of the health care reform movement, even insurance companies now admit the system is broken. In an ad called Illness, AHIP declares: "Let's fix health care."

But the group opposes the actual reforms President Obama and the Democratic leadership have proposed.

Jennifer Brunner: No More Delays: Pass a Health Care Plan With a Public Option

With a public option, accountability would be required and built in because, instead of the union's dues and investment earnings, it would be our tax dollars at work for us.

Mike Papantonio: Big Pharma's Free Ride

There will be no serious health care reform until the drug companies, the hospital corporations and the HMO industry are forced to pay their share of the bill.

Mitchell Bard: Congress Is Behaving as if the Health Care System Isn't in Tatters

We are either going to get no health care reform or watered-down health care legislation that acts as a bandage, helping some people but ignoring the larger problem creating the pain.

Health Care is a Right, Not a Privilege

Real health care reform must include a not-for-profit public option.

Opening up a not-for-profit public health plan like a "Medicare for all" can ensure that every American has access to quality, affordable health care regardless of his or her income. In the world's wealthiest nation, it's unconscionable that people are turned away from coverage because of a pre-existing condition and that families are just one illness away from bankruptcy.

Stand with Senator Gillibrand. Use the form below to show that you believe any health care reform package must include a public option.

Walmart, CVS, Best Buy, GMAC Among 8 Major\Companies To Pull Ads From Glenn Beck Show

Maddow Battles Dick Armey In "Meet The Press" Debut (VIDEO)

When Armey said he took no responsibility "whatsoever" for the virulent protests against President Obama and compared it to MoveOn.org running an ad comparing President Bush to Hitler, Maddow pointed out that that never actually happened. Later she elaborated, pointing out that major conservative groups had speakers going around the country comparing Obama to Hitler, Pol Pot and Stalin and asking supporters to put the fear of God in their congresspeople. When Armey said that he denounced violence, Maddow pointed out that his organization, FreedomWorks, was in a coalition whose website was promoting the violent fight at a Tampa town hall as a good thing.

Health Insurance Industry Spins Data in Fight Against Public Plan

The industry that helped scuttle health reform 15 years ago with its "Harry and Louise" ads is back, voicing support for a central element of the Obama administration's plans: making sure everyone is covered.

Karen Ignagni, president of America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), invoked the statistic to argue against the creation of a government-run insurance option. But the polls are not that simple, and her assertion reveals how the industry's effort to defend its turf has led it to cherry-pick the facts.

The poll Ignagni was citing actually undercuts her position: By 72 to 20 percent, Americans favor the creation of a public plan, the June survey by the New York Times and CBS News found. People also said that they thought government would do a better job than private insurers of holding down health-care costs and providing coverage.

Health Insurance Lobby Supports "Bipartisan Reforms," Attacks Public Option

As I lamented yesterday, health care is one of those areas where both popular opinion and sound public policy seem to take a backseat to protecting those stakeholders who benefit from the status quo. But can we actually see -- statistically -- the impact of lobbying by the insurance industry on the prospects for health care reform? I believe that the answer is yes.

op recipients of PAC money from these industries since 2004 are as follows:

Senator Cycles PAC $
Baucus (D-MT) 3.125 $141,250
McConnell (R-KY) 3.125 $110,750
Nelson (D-NE) 3.125 $106,123
Kyl (R-AZ) 3.125 $106,000
Gregg (R-NH) 3.125 $103,500
Grassley (R-IA) 3.125 $95,000
Lincoln (D-AR) 3.125 $91,000
Enzi (R-WY) 3.125 $87,000
Chambliss (R-GA) 3.125 $86,750
Ensign (R-NV) 3.125 $85,750

Protest meets health insurance lobby

"We believe the health insurance industry is trying to buy their way onto the table with health care reform," says Carmen Balber of Consumer Watchdog at a protest against the American Health Insurance Plans' 2009 Policy Forum. "We see this in two big points," she goes on to explain, "one which is a mandate that would require individuals to purchase private health insurance... and secondly we know the insurance industry is trying to block any sort of public option for the American people. They don't want the competition, so we're here to call out the insurance industry for trying to buy Congress' position."

Tea Party climate change deniers funded by BP

The Global Report

Tea Party climate change deniers funded by BP and other major polluters

Oct. 24- BP and several other big European companies are funding the midterm election campaigns of Tea Party favorites who deny the existence of global warming or oppose Barack Obama's energy agenda, the Guardian has learned.

An analysis of campaign finance by Climate Action Network Europe (Cane) found nearly 80% of campaign donations from a number of major European firms were directed towards senators who blocked action on climate change. These included incumbents who have been embraced by the Tea Party such as Jim DeMint, a Republican from South Carolina, and the notorious climate change denier James Inhofe, a Republican from Oklahoma.

The report, released tomorrow, used information on the Open Secrets.org database to track what it called a coordinated attempt by some of Europe's biggest polluters to influence the US midterms. It said: "The European companies are funding almost exclusively Senate candidates who have been outspoken in their opposition to comprehensive climate policy in the US and candidates who actively deny the scientific consensus that climate change is happening and is caused by people."

The Texas Oil Companies' Dirty Energy Proposition is deceptive.

Deceptive Proposition Would Kill California Clean Air Standards & Kill Clean Energy Jobs

Two Texas oil companies are spending millions to push Prop. 23, a deceptive ballot proposition that would kill California clean energy and air pollution reduction standards. Four years ago, California passed a clean air law (AB 32) that holds polluters accountable and requires them to reduce air pollution that threatens human health and contributes to global climate change. This law has launched California to the forefront of the clean technology industry, sparking innovation and clean energy businesses that are creating hundreds of thousands of new California jobs.

The tragic oil spill in the Gulf reinforces the urgent need to reduce our dependence on costly, dangerous oil. But the oil companies' Prop. 23 would allow polluters to avoid our state's clean energy standards, kill competition and jobs from California's clean technology companies, and keep us addicted to dirty oil.

Prop. 23 - The Texas Oil Companies' Dirty Energy Proposition is deceptive.

* The primary funders of Prop. 23 are the Valero and Tesoro Texas oil companies. They are among the nation's biggest polluters, and their California oil refineries are among the top ten polluters in our state.
* Valero and Tesoro claim Prop. 23 would only "suspend" California's air pollution and clean energy standards until the economy improves. In fact, Prop. 23 - The Dirty Energy Proposition - would repeal our clean energy law and harm the economy.
o The fine print in Prop. 23 reveals their plan is to kill these standards by prohibiting them from being enforced unless unemployment drops to a fixed level that has rarely ever been achieved.

Prop. 23 would create more air pollution in California and threaten public health.

* Air pollution is a major threat to public health in California, with alarming rates of asthma and lung disease, especially among children. Each year, California's air pollution crisis contributes to thousands of premature deaths, hundreds of thousands of asthma attacks, and thousands of trips to the hospital for California families.1
* Prop. 23 would let the Texas oil companies and other polluters off the hook - drastically increasing air pollution and public health risks.
* That's why Prop. 23 is strongly opposed by the American Lung Association in California and AARP.

Prop. 23 would kill clean technology jobs, innovation and billions of dollars of investment in California.

* The Texas oil companies want to continue California's addiction to oil. Prop. 23 would kill competition from California's newly emerging clean energy businesses - wind, solar and other renewable energy and clean technologies that would reduce energy costs and our dependence on fossil fuels.
* If we roll back our clean energy standards, California would lose hundreds of thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in investments to other states.
o According to California's nonpartisan State Legislative Analyst's Office, rolling back our clean energy and clean air law could "dampen additional investments in clean energy technologies or in so-called "green jobs? by private firms, thereby resulting in less economic activity."
* Clean energy businesses and technologies are exceptional bright spots in our economy. California's clean energy and clean air law has put our state in a unique position to lead the clean energy and technology market, both in the United States and abroad.
o 500,000 employees work in clean technology or green jobs in California.2
o Since 2005, California green jobs have grown 10 times faster than the statewide average.3
o California's clean technology sector received $9 billion cumulative venture capital investment from 2005- 09, including $2.1 billion in investment capital in 2009 - more than five times the investment in our nearest competitor, Massachusetts.4
o There are more than 12,000 clean tech companies in California.5

Prop. 23 would increase dependence on oil and increase costs to California consumers.

* The tragic spill in the Gulf has reinforced that we must move to cleaner sources of energy to reduce our dependence on costly, dirty oil.
* Prop. 23 would result in greater use of oil in California and increase the risk of accidents like that in the Gulf Coast.
* Prop. 23 would not only hurt competition from California clean energy businesses, it would also reduce consumer choices by making alternatives to fossil fuels much more expensive for consumers.
* By keeping us dependent on fossil fuels, Prop. 23 would also increase household electricity costs in California by 33%. These added costs would reduce economic output in California by more than $80 billion and cost over a half million jobs by 2020.6
