Afghan opium
Have just read an article on the BBC website that has wound me up a tad.
BBC NEWS | South Asia | Afghan opium fuels 'global chaos' I'm no expert on the matter, but I'm fairly convinced that this whole story is a pack of lies designed only to provide a justified context for the controversial ongoing war in Afghanistan. The story is a pretty common one thats been the basis of US/NATO rhetoric since the whole thing started going pear shaped. Those nasty taliban are growing illegal drugs again, even though they are devout muslims whos religion probably does not allow for such things as opium cultivation. We are now expected to believe that they are tossing aside a part of the fundamentalist ideology that they are prepared to die for in order to smack the west up with their illegal narcotics. Do they seriously think everyone is that dumb? The opium trade, according to the Beeb, is worth about $65Bn annually, but we are expected to believe that the holier than though western capitalists have no interest in this revenue stream because it is dirty money.... yeah, right! I know the Afghan issue is a complex one, and there are a multitude of reasons for the occupation of that land... but I refuse to believe that one of them is goody two-shoes NATO wanting to allieviate the suffering of poor drug addled freaks around the world. I consider this story to be pure propaganda in its vilest form... completely the opposite of what is really happening. It is my firm belief that one of the primary objectives in Afghanistan is to secure the opium trade from the hands of those crazy talibans who wish to execute anyone found dealing in drugs, and keep the cash flowing west from one of the most lucrative trades in the world. I can't believe the brazen shit that our media expects us to swallow sometimes. Last edited by B.; 10-21-2009 at 04:28 PM. |
