Nation's 1st Cannabis Cafe Opens In Portland Oregon, Called Cafe Rumpspankers - cbs3.com

A coffee shop in Portland, Oregon is the nation's first marijuana cafe where certified medical cannabis users can come to get the drug and smoke it, as long as they stick to state law and smoke out of public view.

Cafe Rumpspankers, which will soon carry the name Cannabis Cafe, is testing a new relaxed policy by President Barack Obama regarding medical marijuana users. The policy, handed down by the administration in October, restricts federal attorneys from prosecuting patients who use the drug for medical reasons and dispensaries in states that have legalized them.

Other states, such as California and Colorado, have legalized medicinal marijuana, but their laws only allow for dispensaries.

The Oregon chapter of NORML (National Organization for the Repeal of Marijuana Laws) participates in managing the cafe.

The only people permitted in the Cannabis Cafe are those licensed to smoke who also hold membership in the lobbying group, reports Anne Saker of OregonLive.com. According to Saker's report, visitors to the establishment will be charged $5 a day, and can bring their own pot or smoke donated marijuana. Oregon law says medical marijuana may not be sold.

meh i don't see what the point is if you can't buy weed there. why wouldn't people just smoke at home and then go to whatever restaurant they want? also if you have to be a part of the lobbying group to get in that's p gay.

^i agree. its just a business thats letting certain designated people smoke cannabis on private property out of view. its not like a cafe in amsterdam or anything. its not even like clubs in sf that serve non-alcoholic drinks and sell cannabis.
