the whole middle east is one huge comedy of errors.
the blockade is an error and so is the occupation.
boarding the ship was also an error.
we could have sabotaged it, or sunk it or threatened to sink it, but we couldn't let it land in Gaza.

Firstly there was no act of piratism. we clearly warned them to turn back many times and the repeatedly refused.
The order was given to send in soldiers holding paintball rifles and with real poistols in their packs.
So imagine now that you are a commando boarding the ship, most of them are around your ages 18 - 22.
As soon as you hit the deck, a mob grabs you, throws you on the ground or into the sea after taking your weapons, they start beating you with iron poles and you haven't even got the first 10 men down.

Your friends are standing by watching helpless but are not given the order to open fire. Meanwhile on the ship, captured hand guns are now being used against the soldiers. 2 officers under attack took out their weapons and began shooting at peoples LEGS.

Inside all this mess on arioting boat of hundreds of crazies attacking, the soldiers only killed 9 of them shows incredible self restraint.
And the entire Israeli nation are proud of their soldiers and they way that they conduct themselves.

we are less proud of our leaders that order them into stupid situations though.

What gives israel the right to turn away aid?

Seriously? In international waters nonetheless?

If north korea or iran were doing this, we would be bringing out the nukes, you know. at least the tactical ones. shit would get real, real fast.

At what point do you blame the soldiers for following illegal orders (boarding a ship in international waters)?

As it goes, if you break into my house and are attacked by me, your 'defense' is not that. You provoked it and are responsible for the outcome. Something similar to the felony murder rule.

19-year old US citizen killed during the flotilla raid was shot four times in the head at close range and once in the chest
By ZOE MAGEE
June 3, 2010

A U.S. citizen who lived in Turkey is among the nine people killed when Israeli commandos stormed a Turkish aid ship heading for the Gaza Strip, officials said today. The victim was identified as Furkan Dogan, 19, a Turkish-American. A forensic report said he was shot at close range, with four bullets in his head and one in his chest, according to the Anatolian news agency.

Dogan was a high school student studying social sciences in the town of Kayseri in central Turkey. He was born in Troy, N.Y., and moved to Turkey at the age of 2. He will be buried in his hometown tomorrow.

Dogan's body was returned to Turkey today along with eight others, all Turkish nationals, who were on board the Mavi Marmara.
