Iran allowing better oversight proves defiance?
IAEA: Iran Allows Better Oversight at Enrichment Site
White House Says Report Proves Iran's 'Defiance' by Jason Ditz, May 31, 2010 Though the report will not be available on their website for another week, confidential advance versions of the IAEA’s latest report on Iran are making the rounds in the media, and sparking the usual litany of accusations. The report notes that Iran has expanded its civilian enrichment capabilities, which should come as no surprise as Iran has been saying they were doing so for months. It also reports Iran has made a trivial amount of 20% enriched uranium, an attempt at producing fuel for its medical reactor, again something that has been known for months. Seemingly the only new information in the report is that Iran has agreed to even more stringent oversight of its Natanz enrichment facility, and that the IAEA is scrambling to implement those changes. They continue to verify the non-diversion of nuclear material. The White House was quick to claim that the report “underscores” the need for sanctions and proves that Iran remains “defiant” of administration demands to abandon its civilian program in its entirety. ******************** ******************** *************** I guess the NPT means nothing. |
