Spending all our money on other things (like a constant state of war) = bad

My comment was more of a question as to whether technology learned as a result of our space program would have been learned anyway, elsewhere.

Anyways, yeah I think the ol' US should cut the defense budget a bit and end all this pork barrel bullshit, shunt the funds back into the Space Program. Theres so much out there we haven't seen, so much potential. It would also be pretty cool to see private involvement in exploring space. Someone besides the gov. funded programs needs to step up. Civilian exploration will yield results faster than the current system.
