Fuck THIS!

It's not the god damned schools that are failing the children, it's modern society.

Values have went from learning and self improvement to "Hurr Durr who saw american idol last night?"

Schools are (almost) as good as they were 50 years ago. Children today just do not have the drive or motivation to learn as they did before.

When I was in school, I was set apart from the regular kids the entire time. I was always in the smart groups, smart classes and Honors in HS. The few classes I did have that were mixed, were a totally different animal than that of my norm.

Learning is found within, you have to be interested and like what you are presented.

TL;DR - Kids today like fast food, sales at the mall and T.V. over learning. Schools are fine.

It is the parents being conditioned into thinking that their little bundle of joy is going to be the next fucking jesus crist that is the problem...The education factories of america are just fine at pushing out products, its just that the output doesn't live up to the hype...

John Stossle says things in such a way I'm surprised he doesn't get punched in the mouth

He talks with lots of (?! ?!) sing song it's pretty funny.

"WHAT do you THINK?! about this issUE?!"

I'm 5 mins in and my first thought is how are the parents responsible for creating a learning environment at home? You get a parent who won't let their child be diagnosed with FAS because of the implications... that is REALLY the teacher and student's fault

I don't think the blame is black and white.... it's the whole Society's fault.

since I'm now a teacher I can tell you the following:

the problem is American sensibility. Kids in America have reached the point where they understand that a teacher has no actual power.

If I stand on my desk....what? You'll yell at me? Fuck you. If I don't do my homework? What? You'll fail me? Try it. I'll get my mom to bitch to the headmaster.

There is no real way to control someone if you have no ability to back up your threats.

Here in Japan, kids' parents are fucking INVESTED in their kids. They send their kids to cram schools and english schools and help them with homework.

At a certain point, kids have to be willing to DO the work. Otherwise, it's no different than yelling at a rock and telling it to walk.

Obviously it's more complicated...bad school funding, bad environments, large classes, bad teachers, but these are all far less of the problem.

edit: also, standardizing things and not letting teachers teach the class makes it impossible to make class compelling. Let teachers use their skills to teach...don't let the administration dictate what/how they can teach.

qft, indeed.

thats exactly what happened to me. i didnt recieve one A, except a science class, art class, and the night classes i took after being kicked out of school for a year, after third grade.

i learned no one had power over me, and being the short sighted youth i was, i put forth no effort unless i really enjoyed the work, or i wanted something from my mom.

it was to the point of "ima sit here and not say or do damn thing just in spite of you, and how much it bothers you to not have control." i fell into crying fits before i caved, which i never did, and it lead to me being removed from school.
