This American Life- A Radio Show

From many many years This American Life has been an awesome show and one I always look forward to hearing. Our Sunday routine ended around 3pm when this show came on in our area. It was time to sit down, spark up and sip a glass of wine over this very well produced and presented look at life, hosted by Ira Glass.

This American Life
Quote:
is a weekly hour-long radio program produced by Chicago Public Radio and hosted by Ira Glass. It is distributed by Public Radio International on PRI affiliate stations and is also available as a free weekly podcast. Primarily a journalistic non-fiction program, it has also featured essays, memoirs, field recordings, short fiction, and found footage. The first episode aired on November 17, 1995, under the show's original title, Your Radio Playhouse.

A television program of the same name and basic structure of the radio program ran for two seasons on the Showtime cable network between June 2007 and May 2008. The program featured Ira Glass as the host and executive producer. In September 2009, it was reported that Glass and the other creators of the show had "asked to be taken off TV", due to the difficult schedule required to create the show.[

I too am a big fan, though I've given up the radio for podcasts that I can listen to on my own schedule and without commercial interruption.

The one about the Jarvises, a family of pot growers, was especially riveting.

Sedaris is hilarious. Have you read any of his books? I'm pretty sure he reads his own books on 'tape' for some extra lulz....

I always enjoyed making a time for this show. Sitting down and making it a special time to my Wife and I. Dude's just got a good Sunday afternoon voice

^ I liked When You Are Engulfed In Flames, and his radio broadcast of his holiday elf experience is so lulzy its repeated every holiday season.

I'd like to see a return of the old fictional radio shows, or some variation on the old theme that works for today's audience. I can remember listening to some as a kid, when the last of them played on KNX news radio after the news was over. They bring the atmosphere to you, rather than suck you into it as TV does.

A moment that happens in my life, with great joy my heart swells, is to listen to my Wife read David Sedaris, preferably in public.... she has such a great laugh, and I think everyone should hear it....

So naturally when he's on the show, it's great for that reason too.

Ah... nostalgia. Been away from her for almost a month now. Moving next Sunday/Monday to be with her.

But eh... that is a fond memory, thanks for letting me share.

Isn't that what Garrison Keillor does?

I've been hooked on NPR since my teen-age years.

As Ira Glass likes to say, "Radio is the most visual of mediums."

While by and large NPR has a pro-pot slant, a notable exception is Terry Gross. Her interview with Tommy Chong following his arrest lowered her standing in my eyes considerably. It was a very hostile interview which ended with a rebuttal from the federal prosecutor.

on last week's Ira glass was talking about something that happened to him around age six and he was like 'That began a period of my life when I was obsessed with death'. I was like 'isn't that ERRY period in yer life Ira?'
