I've got a plan

Hear me out on this one
..only the House of Representatives can authorize Government spending(unless it's the Fed which isn't part of the Government anyway)
so what i propse is this:
we reappropiate funds & transfer a signifigant portion of the budget from war and occupation towards the health and care of our veterans , active duty and thier families..they are in desperate need
and we can't go on like this forever..it's not healthy

Seriously.... when I started hearing about 'support groups' for vets with ptsd on conservative talk radio I figured we are having a full blow epidemic if 'they' are talking about it. Because previously it's been spoken of more in the 'collateral damage' light. "Of course people aren't the same after they've been in combat"

Duh... not let's do something about it. I have too many 'quiet' friends now that they've come back from the Wars.

saw these problems coming with the returning of desert storm troops...

prolonged firefights, head/body trauma from many ied's, prolonged tours, isolation, the gore of war.

psychology is a major that's always interested me.

but the science is way too gray for me to really consider it a science.

...how many members are shrinks ?

The major problem of our troops returning with severe mental issues is that most can't reconcile the reasons they are there with what they actually see. They have come to the realization that indeed we are the bad guy and they have had their lives taken away on lies and deception and the folks in charge really just don't give a fuck.

That type of torture no one can deal with, you either go gung ho or crazy, problem is this time it's a lot less of the gung ho type.

The important part of that quote you used was "On conservative talk radio" and I'm sure you get my drift that when the 'pushers of policy' start to see the problem and admit it... you know it's getting serious.

My Wife is a Masters level counselor and I myself have volunteered in counseling positions and is a natural for me. I've studied w/ my Wife the whole way through her under grad and masters degree and edited her papers for content, grammar.... etc... and feel and have seen that I can handle myself and other in a 'counseling-like' settings.

I'm not saying 'I am a counselor' officially... but it's the vein I live my life, trying to be a Friend to those who need one.

Essentially a counselor is a good listener, can find the 'essence' of the statements and reflect that back to the person you are talking to, as to clarify and so they can hear it. And above all a good counselor knows there limits and refers to other professionals when necessary.

I've been approached and have sought out talking with people here on YaHooka. Sometimes it's a simple listening to people vent and other times it's really helped people shift a paradigm in their thinking and get them closer to where they want to be.

PTSD in this case crosses over to the work my Wife has done with other trauma and understanding how it happens in the body has lent a real understanding of why people can't process it. At least from an outside standpoint of seeing.

Although I myself have undergone counseling for trauma in my life which has given me a first hand grasp of the tools and methods.

I will always listen to anyone who needs a Friend. I nearly always speak with my Wife about the issues I talk with people on here and often it's mainly been a reinforcement of what I did or what I wish to do, rather pass on when sharing in others pains.

I am honoured that people have trusted me here to open up their lives and hearts to me and I never pretend to be more than I am.

An experienced volunteer counselor w/ a Master level counselor as a Wife, whom I use to reference and seek counsel with on them matters.

My chosen user title is Spiritual Friend.... And to me spirit mean namely connection, connection to life. And that is basically how I proceed in the counsel I offer.

So for what that is worth. I am a caring friend who will listen and go as deep as you want or as far as I am able to help.

In loving kindness,
SageTree

this is the same bs the (new more liberal) batch of democrats are trying to push now.

oh lets just end all the wars and leave them and then we'll have enough money to keep giving ridiculous unsustainable wellfare benefits to people who are already "proud 99ers"

....look at what britain did at the end of ww2 when they mothballed their army and withdrew from the world as the labor government drained the peoples treasury to build a "new jerusalem".... today they dont have the clout to influence world events, nor has the extra money they gave to the people done much good- those same people are out in the streets ranting and raving that now they cant afford to keep paying them off anymore.

its an interesting new way of trying to do the same old thing, because whos gonna say - no lets keep paying for WAR.... but seriously, if the wars are important and we are championing freedom and defending the defenseless, they actually ARE pretty important...

whos gonna come to fill the gap when the US leaves ? .... china? the taliban? al qaida? russia?

ill bet things will be much better off for us then

another different aspect of this is, u know when 9/11 happened and the first batches of troops were sent over- those troops had joined in the 90s when there werent wars and they had a hard time adjusting to it and everything... i totally feel for those people.

a few years on, and the people who were signing up were doing it for the same reason george h w bush did in ww2, and countless americans did in vietnam and various other times... they werent expecting a cushy non-war enviornment in which to pay off student loans like the first crop.... they knew what was happening and still VOULENTEERED to do it.... today theres even more openness and yet people still answer the call to service... i support doing all sorts of things for the troops and helping them.... but never going to war to "help the troops" is ridiculous.

I think if we look too closely, we're going to find out that EVERYONE who parcipates in war becomes traumatized.

"I am sick and tired of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation. War is hell."

Something I like about Remembrance Day Canada, at least as I understand it, is the vein that we need to remember that we are all causalities/victims of war if we've been alive through one. Of course Vets and the Fallen take precedent, however this under current is highly important to me.

Correct my if I'm wrong, but this isn't a sentiment I remember hearing about in the US..... seems obvious... but I've never heard anyone actually say it until I lived here.

There are a lot of reasons this makes sense to me.

For one, listening to my buddies from Iraq talk, who are not quiet men, to me about the war after a few drinks is devastating and I'm amazed how people survive after that sort of trauma.

Although of note and I know I'm not alone..... one of my close friends who was a medivac in Iraq ended his life last year around this time and his words in the note were that he couldn't get the war to stop he couldn't leave the war in the desert....

They view people as humans in theory, but once the reality sets in, and there are people in authority over the lives of others, all humanity goes out of the equation. Cases in point, the Soviet Union and Communist China.

The problem is not who is in charge, nor what they espouse to be put there. The problem is that SOMEONE is in charge. People seek things to benefit by them. People who seek power, often paying hundreds of millions for jobs that pay hundreds of thousands, seek to benefit as well.

The only way to fix this is going the lincoln/jefferson/kennedy route without getting killed.

In other words, bring back the greenbacks.
