what was it exactly about the terrorist surveillance program that mueller, ashcroft, and comey were ready to resign for?
Balkinization
read this, its extremely interesting. bush writes tantalizingly about the events that took place when he tried to reauthorize the terrorist surveillance program and the new department of justice guys who were different from the ones who signed off on it in 2001 would not agree because they thought certain aspects of it were not legal. it has something to do with the level of oversight that congress can have on the program and whether the executive branch has to inform congress about various aspects of it- but beyond that, there doesnt seem to be any information made public about it even after all these years. clearly it must concern some heavily classified stuff, but as the schumer interrogation reveals, (see link) bush's top guys- the Attorney General, the head of the FBI, and others were all ready to resign and had written their letters of resignation before bush finally relented and changed whatever aspect of the program it was that had them all hot and bothered. .... most of u know i thought bush was a pretty good president, and in his book he talks about and gives his reasons for a lot of what he did... but in this case, he seems to gloss over the specific details that any interested person would find most important, so i would think there are a lot more people out there now who wonder what exactly went on and what exactly it was that Bush wanted to do that these top guys were ready to resign over... ....why havent the washington post and the ny times broken this story yet? i want to know exactly what it was, at least a lot more than we know now, which seems like basically nothing... ...how many years do we have to wait? |
