This is no surprise. The government is not going to do ANYTHING that might threaten the current "recovery". If they had ended the tax cuts, the stock and commodities market would have taken a serious hit, "big scary" would have come back for awhile, and more politicians would see their re-election prospects head down the tubes.

When evaluating whether a given piece of legislation is going to pass or fail, you have to look at the interests of those voting for or against it, not the interests of those the bill has been purportedly drafted to benefit.

Well I had to ask her if military spending was foreign aid or not?

In the 2008 Fed. Buget less than 1% is for foreign aid and development. A web site of two I looked at said the private giving is 10.6 billion. Then it was said,

Well.... I posted that info as a comment and it was taken down the next hour.....

The budget % item is pretty hard to dispute and can only say I found similar stats for the /person stat and private giving on several websites.

Apparently this is a compromise (something he's going to need to do more of with a Republican majority) for those said unemployment benefits which the Republicans wanted to block (along with passing the Bush Tax Cuts, as well).

unemployment benefits is the only thing that has to be "paid" for, the bush era tax cuts just equal less potential revenue for the IRS to collect from
any talk of ending wars have been put on the table
